I think that we can safely say that his achievement in winning the World Championship as a driver and team owner is unlikely to ever be matched.
Doing so on the other side of the world to your home country is even more remarkable. That is just one part of the huge legacy that he leaves us, internationally and within Australia. A wonderful and much admired man who still had "the look" and the no-bullsh approach in recent times. RIP Sir Jack and best wishes to the family. |

I send my respect to the man who put Australia (and Australians) very high on motorsport world. The only man who won an F1 world championship driving his own car.
RIP sir Jack Brabham. |

Jack Brabham was one of us and he gained many sincere friends on this side of the ditch, a true Anzac.
I recall watching his first race here amongst internationals and thinking, "the car is not in fact up to it, but damn it he is the only driver racing at 10/10ths". He went on to show motor racing what sport is all about. He rests in my memory, fearlessly sliding a tight corner. Last edited by Trevor NZ; 19 May 2014 at 01:12. Reason: typo |

A true entertainer in the F.1 paddock, Sir Jack was a racer till the end.
I remember him taking a "short cut" in a celebrity race at Brands Hatch.......He cut through the gap at clearways while the rest of the field continued on the G.P. circuit! RIP Sir Jack. |

It is worth noting that the trophy for winning the Australian Grand Prix will now be named the Jack Brabham Trophy - http://www.smh.com.au/sport/motorspo...610-zs2gg.html
His state funeral was held yesterday. |

Received yesterday from Doug Nye
A wonderfully multi-tiered congregation at Silverstone today paid heartfelt tribute to the late, great, Sir Jack Brabham in a memorable celebration of his life, his work, his career and his achievements. I'll post some photos later, but if Jack's wonderfully accessible, genuinely man-of-the-people personality ever touched you, or his achievements and products interested, moved or impressed you, please pause a moment and consider making a contribution (however small - or large) in his memory to the Brabham family's chosen charity, Kidney Research UK. Jack spent the last eight years of his fantastically jam-packed life sustained by regular kidney dialysis. Incurable kidney failure can strike anyone, any age, any time. Kidney Research UK receives no Government funding but can help advances in understanding and treating such conditions. In homage to this great man's memory, do consider donating here, and please leave a message for the family about what Jack meant for you: https://www.justgiving.com/SirJackBrabham/ |
