Formula V8 3.5 Off 2017 News & Rumours
So lads and bella, http://www.fiawec.com/en/news/fia-we...2017_4291.html we have a tie up between two established series', although one of them have been battered recently. Do not really understand the remarks re former drivers joining FIA WEC, but I believe they had to write something so it would professional. What really worries me are them overseas visits, where the series suffered of lowest grids in their history this year, with 13 drivers racing over the weekend. Them overseas journeys are budget killers...

Maybe they are getting assistance with the travel from the WEC, after all the WEC pay the transportation costs for all of the WEC teams. I do agree with you though, with only 13 cars this year and increased costs next year, where will this head?

There's a sponsor\third-party paying the travel costs, but I'm not convinced it makes any sense to run 3.5 instead of say Blancpain (where you'll get paid to race).

This may go someway towards offering some flavour of the benefits the series had under Renault.
Ok, not to the same extent but if travel is going to be covered and other incentives are on the table plus the chance to race on global circuits as well as Europe it should attract more global drivers and sponsors? This can only be a good thing for the series which has struggled this year but historically has been very strong entries and talent wise. Could we see more South Americans and Japanese doing it if they can race in front of their home crowds? Celis Jnr is bound to continue and Kanamaru surely. Let's see how the close season unfolds.... |

I think it will struggle as it just is not on the beaten track anymore.

Not if it's on the WEC bill with Porsche, Audi, Toyota and works GT teams watching.
Drivers could do a lot worse than get picked up by one of those if they cannot progress to GP2 or beyond in single seaters? |

Not really sure I can see it continuing.
Those with budgets like Nissany, Binder, Celis, Delatraz, Orudzhev and Fittipaldi will move on and the make weights who filled the grid with 1/4 budgets this year won't find pots of lucre |

You forgot Louis Delétraz. Unless he manages to snatch the championship from Dillmann, he'll probably be back.
Unless Renault decides otherwise and can give him a good seat in GP2 (i.e. not at MP Motorsport) No Russian? Not going to happen. 2 Dutch drivers? Not going to happen. Jack Aitken is more likely... Will he be doing both GP3 and WSR? Busy guy ... |

Is this based on anything, or just your personal wish list?
No Russian, no SMP-backed junior driver? Doubtful. She left Teo MartÃ*n for RP fduring the course of the F3 Open season, and now she returns there? If you say so ... I think Fortec can get and needs a better lineup for a title push. Last edited by gert; 9 Nov 2016 at 15:17. |

Yes yes of course the series is dead in the water. We've only just finished this season and had one little test.
A rubbbish series will not be allowed on the WEC bill so let's see what work goes on behind the scenes over the winter before nailing the coffin eh folks? |
