Already dipping below 1:50. Caddys are almost 2 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Fastest time of session 2, a 1.49.7 by Fittipaldi in the 5. Mueller quickest in the 66 at a 1:58, Bergmeister at a 2.03.3..
For comparison... 2013 LMP1 pole time was a 1.43... Quickest time last year was a 1:52. These cars aren't THAT much faster per lap than the previous stuff we've had. |

They're supposed to be about halfway between the old P2 cars and the 2013 R18 at Le Mans, so you'd expect around a 47.5 for pole. Low 49 is probably fine for testing.

I would call it expected based on power and aero... they dip below the 1:47 i'll be shocked.

Fact is that the DPIs won't be going any faster than an Audi R8 could do nearly 15 years ago. Granted, DPIs weren't exactly designed to do sub-1:45 lap times, but at the same time, something faster than a 1:48 would be nice.
Especially considering that LMP2 cars on LMP2 spec Dunlops were running 1:46s or 1:47s in testing last fall. I'd believe that tires make up a lot of that difference. I guess that I'm lamenting that a decade in a half's worth of development means that the top class won't be any faster than those 15 year old cars. |

And even with that private test, they're still not that close to what ACO spec LMP2s were turning in the fall. Again, I'd have to think that the difference between the Dunlop and Conti rubber has a lot to answer for.
Also considering that most of the field it seemed spent most of the day still off the Dallara-Cadillac pace. |

I think Caddy has more pace. The conditions may be different from their previous test, but I expected them to go at least in the 1:48's. I doubt any DPi will get that far under 1:49 at this test because fear of negative bop, which is sad imo. If the dunlop tire'd p2's were in the 1:46's, there's definitely performance left on the table from the rubber.
