At that time the NSWRL had only two games a week on FTA, one live and one delayed. Of course in terms of FTA hours per year, the Rugby League was well ahead in 1983, and still is in 2017 How do you figure that? NRL has it's own 24/7 channel |

I think there's a rather large point being missed here: NRL/AFL are on EVERY weekend for 30+ weekends. The Supercars (understandably) are only on, at best, every fortnight. You can talk percentage of events shown all you want, what I know is that as an NRL or an AFL fan I can watch my sport 100% of the weekends its being played live at some stage on FTA.
When team owners like Brad Jones are openly saying that for all the good that the PayTV deal has done in the short term, it is probably hurting them in the long term when trying to attract sponsors to a team, you should sit up and take a bit of notice, surely? On a separate note, has anyone seen any physical results from the big announcement of Triple M being a Supercar 'partner'? |

But their winter coverage of sport is very NRL-centric in Brisbane/Sydney and AFL-centric in Adelaide/Melbourne. I'm not sure what could have been expected from the you-beaut media releases around the formation fo the partnership, but there has been zero/zip extra Supercar coverage since the announcement. |

I'd have thought perhaps mentioning who topped practice and qualy, and top 3 in the races would've been sufficient. Maybe throw in a mention of a crash or controversy too.
Otherwise, what's the point of it all? |

Im blowed if I know to be honest.
Conceptually it could be a good thing as their core target markets are very similar, it could work for both parties. But understandably the ball sports take up a lot of MMMs airtime, most of their major shows are either hosted by NRL or AFL heads and talk mostly AFL/NRL. Was there ever a mention of a $ figure being placed on this deal, or was it a contra type arrangement? |

Ironically, the times I have heard this are the days I have been keen to get home and watch the practice sessions I have recorded, so all MMM did was spoil the result |

Have you told them ?? If they didn't chat about the NRL or AFL, they would receive negative feedback on social media, so why should Motorsport be any different? If they don't know that people want to hear what's going on, they think that people wont want to know about what's going on...

Point taken, however my care factor doesn't really go beyond mentioning it in this thread.

As a frequent listener on/off during the weekend, they do add a comment about V8's during a V8 weekend, usually so and so is fastest in practice or Qual. Nothing earth shattering or delivered to entice someone to watch who wouldn't otherwise. And like Ford71 mentioned, more often than not spoils my enjoyment. (Particularly when waiting for 9pm to watch the highlight package.)

Triple M have been mentioning race results on their news updates for years, their daily evening sports show has had live on-location episodes at Bathurst with Mark Skaife co-hosting a number of times in recent years, and their old Saturday morning show "Dead Set Legends" with Ray Warren were live on-location for a few of the Homebush street races as well.
This new deal for 2017 with Triple M hasn't seemed to result in anything extra, just more of the same. |

Meanwhile Network 7 see rights fees for sport going down, not up - might make it harder for a player currently on Fox to get back into the FTA market with no existing arrangement: Party's over lads

My recollection is that 7 offered the same amount it had been paying but Fox put more on the table and the teams / Archer went for that. I think that although today's statement is from 7, it would apply just as much to other networks, nine having made similar comments when asked about Cricket for example. |

7 made a massive reduction to their price for supercars when they started the 2 year deal for 2013 and 2014, you may remmber 3 teams handed their RECS back |

I thought that 7 simply offered the same deal again and with no better offer, it was accepted but that deal would have been announced 5 years ago and you may be right, my recollection may be flawed. Teams handing RECs back might be impacted in a small way only by broadcast revenue but it certainly wouldn't be the whole picture. No question the teams and Archer went for the short term gain of a better broadcast deal with Fox but also no doubt that some may be regretting it now. |

Boss of Broadcast Rights specialists, Global Media & Sports, agrees that rights fees are at or fast approaching a tipping point: Yep, we're at a Tipping Point alright

Interesting reading, as an aside, considering live sport is one of the only real guaranteed ratings pullers right now it makes me wonder on the profitability of other types of television like talent shows and reality TV.
They keep talking about reduced revenue this year in the two articles, but you'd imagine that the Olympics is/was responsible for larger revenue figures in 2016? And don't forget, Sevens loss includes "a write- down of television assets and other intangibles and losses on investments." |

With the ACCC not standing in the way of the Murdoch/Gordon buyout of Network 10, could be some interesting times ahead for Sports Rights negotiations:Virtual Monopoly?
