Anyone else think this has gone a little quiet after a massive amount of initial interest?

certainly has. after all the over-hype and the supposed humongous amount of potential entries i confidently predict the grid will be very very poor.
the series will be not much more than just over expensive club racing |

Wonder if the TCR/WTCC has anything to do with it? Doubt it has, but you never know

Those running a two-car team will probably wait until both seats are filled before announcing anything. |

The interest in this series seems not to be as big as it was initially expected.

The numbers will be no where near high as expected.
The problem is TCR is aimed to be a "cheaper touring car series" compared to say BTCC but the reality is that it is not cheap at all. The cars cost 100k+ for starters. So expect an arrive and drive season to cost well in excess of 100K, drivers with that sort of money may as well look at doing BTCC. Great idea in theory but the reality is cold, dark and expensive! |

People kept banging on about how much cheaper a TCR car is to buy than build/buy a BTCC car. Which misses the bigger picture.
A team builds a BTCC car to uses for several years as an investment and a driver has to show to sponsors how much return they get for their investment. If you have one established series in the market, with solid spectator and viewing figures, not to mention online following, and a start-up, the safe bet is still on the established house. This is why TCR UK will be slow to build up. If you want to gain talented drivers who use sponsorship they have found to fund their motorsport career, TCR isn't the place to go until the series has built up an audience. TCR UK appeals to drivers who have earned enough money from other parts of their lives to then go racing, without having to pitch for sponsors. I think. |

I agree Bob.
Getting a sponsor to hand over their hard earned marketing budget for stickers on a race car requires the sponsor to see a potential for a return on that investment. The BTCC is a pitch where solid figures can be given: X TV viewers, Y spectators at the venue. No doubt market researchers will have figures as to age/sex/interests/wealth of viewers too. All the sort of things a marketeer wants to know. TCR: stick finger in air and guesstimate number of bums on seats. Frankly I would think the BTCC support acts of Clios etc would be an easier sell than TCR. |

Information that I have received is the TCR UK series has 3 confirmed entries for the 2018 season. The series is likely to be canned for the 2018 season and re-launched for 2019.
