What a load of b******s! First of all I thought it was a plan to get people from the main gate to the circuit, run the 5km it almost is and get in for 30 quid! Seriously though this whole event is bringing world rallycross down.Sure IMG are charging a fortune to hold a round but they are not forcing them to have music acts that don't come cheap either. They obviously think rallycross doesn't sell on its own, maybe that's why they weren't prepared yesterday for what still turned out to be not a big crowd but more than they seem to be expecting.
They claim speedmachine to be some kind of music festival too but the music press have shown hardly any interest in it. And who are these new type of fans IMG have brought into the sport? The 4 rounds I did last year seemed to have the usual mix of people rallycross has always attracted, for sure more of them but not in anyway a younger crowd. This event though will undoubtedly see numbers drop and families virtually excluded due to cost. |

Absolutely spot on Chasing Cars.
And Chunder, yes I appreciate the direction they're trying to move in, which is undoubtedly into an area away from just a Motorsport weekend. But if they only get 5000 people turn up, do you really think they'll consider it a success?! They want numbers and the proof of that will come in May. But if they feel the need to be adding gimmicks in March, then it doesn't look good... |

Just a quick one, here's Loeb's comments from the days action:
https://www.thecheckeredflag.co.uk/2...ebastien-loeb/ It just gets worse when you read comments like that. |

Key question is, will they change it? Will they have time (especially if it needs FIA approval)? 45mph max corner speed? That's so poor! It's also not true as the slight bend as they come off the loose over the finish line must be more like 75mph.

I very much doubt they will have time to change it.
Not the best really is it? I really think they will get a decent crowd, people are fairly easy to please and they will consider the prices cheap when you consider how dear concert tickets are, most of the prices would be a decent seat at ONE of the bands playing Silverstone might make a big loss though as it mus cost a lot to book these bands, and seemingly the pre-event tickets sales are not very good if these gimmicks are to be believed. Or they might have planned this all along, send the prices out early for RX fans, see if they bite, then release better offers if its not going well. I hope it falls on its arse I really do. But if the only alternative is Lydden, and that place has been butchered in recent years, I would rather not have WRX in this country as there really is not a decent venue for it to be held |

Having now seen the track in person it gives some perspective to the event map shown on the Speedmachine website. |

Just looked at the map. It's really so naff. The paddock (which I understood was an issue at lydden) is so small with 60% of it taken up by the stage and the Boulevard, whatever that is. The parts that would be a good car park for fans are taken up with go karting. I know people will argue that this is about the event not just rallycross etc, but having been there it really will just come across as amateur, spread out and dull. It will be characterless. And that is not true of every other WRX event I have been to, including Barcelona. The "festival" that's been hyped above is just a stage in a car park behind the main paddock buildings. Hardly Glastonbury.

I don't think you can judge it entirely unless you go, which we obviously don't, and sadly we would bring our negatives with it.
I am not supporting this, merely pointing out that the event is not even slightly aimed at people like us. These new folk might think it's alright and as I say also, the music is the main draw, the rest is a sideshow. That is why it is so expensive to get in. |

This is what I don't understand - the rallycross is a sideshow as part of a larger whole. The rallycross on its own could have been a decent event, they could have had their 'Speedmachine' dross quite happily without the rallycross too - just add in 'hot laps' or some such guff instead. How many people there will actually give a toss about the rallycross? |

Anyway, back to the British championship - the entry list for Lydden is out:
http://www.rallycrossbrx.com/news/en...n-hill-april-2 No real surprises but nice to see 2 6R4s in the retros. |

Not the entry list i hoped for...
Supercars looks nice, Supermodified rather poor. If the weather is nice, i visit the BRX @ Lydden for the first time again in a few years. |

Just uploaded a few pictures from Silverstone, few of my faves:
Jack Thorne going from last to first in the final was definitely the drive of the day for me, his new set of wheels is definitely quick! Very small album of pictures here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/229616...57689028775260 If anyone is interested. I am hoping for better weather for Lydden! |

But with DTM and other support series I can imagine it's difficult because of time schedule and live tv coverage.
At Silverstone they are the only one that uses the track. |

Hold on to your hats - Liam Doran will be competing Easter Monday in a C4. Could go either way!

Last time he was in the C4 I seem to recall there were some pretty sideways entries into Paddock Hill bend (then I think something broke?): hopefully there will be some of that!

So it shouldn't be dull! The weather is looking grey and damp for Monday so dust shouldn't be a problem. Looking forward to this |

I seem to recall that he was so sideways and the new tarmac had just been laid that it did a couple of drive shafts through the day.

Feeling a bit gutted as I wont be able to make this round, looks like a good entry and with a few late comers even better. Just a pitty no Jack Thorne in his misile of a Twingo. Hopefully there might be sumone else there to record the days action so can watch on YouTbue later as it be a long wait for the tv show.

Just been looking at the entry list for the Retros - that's a nice varied selection of cars. Looking forward to seeing the Chevette and Peugeot 309 - not seen any of those in action for a while! Good to see Jobb back in action in the Escort Cosworth too - that'll be interesting up against the 6R4s. |

Agreed. I think the Retros are a good mix and 15 of them may be a record. If it's wet, then the minis v rwd cars is always a good battle. Especially at Lydden where it's a good balance of power and cornering (unlike Silverstone where it was just cornering). Should be a good day.
Lydden weather is always a microcosm. Sometimes it seems to escape the worst of it. I've been there and the surrounding clouds are black, but Lydden escapes it Weather is also meant to pick up as the day goes on. Fingers crossed that's the case. A wet start turing dry is infinitely better than the opposite. |
