The problem with the B8's at the moment is the cars in masters are running Avon tyres and some are now using Fva's with 270 hp . Guards trophy races which are sponsored by Dunlop tyres are now allowing Avon tyred cars in the invitation class, the tyres are like chalk and cheese . Now the supply problem seems to be sorted I think we should all go back to Dunlops and a bit more of a level playing field

I now help run an Alfa in the PP HTC series where we use Avons crossplies, which do seem slightly better, but still a long way from perfect ; this year we are running hand cut radials (legal in the series) & used on a lot of the cars in this series & hope they will be a bit more uniform, but are they really historic tyres ?? Ref Graham Wilson's B8, as far as I'm aware it uses a Lester Owen BMW motor, so Mr. Pittard would be even quicker with an FVA !!! |

Got back last last night but what an event that was. Even just as a spectator!
Beautiful location, awesome track, good choice of food and of course great variety of racing and track activity (the xx program can get a bit repetitive but the F1's and 333sp's could go on all day as far asI'm concerned!) Don't know what happened to the young time trophy race but it did mean getting to watch a Ferrari 512, Porsche 962, Lancia LC1 etc get some laps in. Shame there were a number of red flags and safety cars that tainted most races and sessions but forgiven for all of the above. Sadly had to leave lunch time Sunday thus not being able to see all the races but got to see everything at least once. Spent plenty of time pouring over that Alfa Lola among other things in paddock. (Whilst trying to keep in the shade where possible of course Mike! No sunburn at all, a nice tan in it's place though). I might start making plans for next year already...although maybe I should save up for a drive in something instead...? |

[QUOTE=GCCheddaris;3816941]Thank you for the reply Martin , it would be interesting to see how young Mr Pittard compared with Martin O'Connell in Chevron B8s .
I can assure you that David Pittard would stack up well against anyone. Back in the day, he was racing MR2's in the UK. He was so quick that the series organisers "banned" him on a fairly dubious technicality, so he took the hint and left. I suggested he should have a go in my Swift Sports 2000. So, with no running in the car, we turned up for the opening round of the 2011 championship. He put the car on pole by a clear margin, and ran away with the race, winning by over half a minute (with me trying to slow him down from the pit wall, to save everyone else's blushes). He still holds the lap records at Snetterton, Donington GP and Silverstone International. He is one of those effortless types who is able to adapt to cars immediately. Unfortunately, his family do not own a plc business which will fund his racing, so he's reliant on people like Graham (thank you) to further his ambitions. I'd like to see him in a GT3 car in Europe. He is also a superb ARDS-qualified driver coach. One day with him is money well spent if you want to get better (I do). I'm sure we will see much more of him in the next few years. |
