This rules are horrible
fixed downforce and drag, fixed weight distribution, fixed power, spec ecu
Whan can you even do as a team to get a pace advantage if everything is fixed

Given where the spec ecu is mentioned in the presentation is it possible that they really mean "spec hybrid control unit"?

I wonder if the 980kg is the weight including the driver or not. It's 878kg for LMP1H without the driver and fuel right now.

They will work at least on petrol consumption (free engine architecture), tires, use of mobile aero elements.

Also, in the narrated video they showed 3:20 target lap time (means fast race lap as usual) was mentioned.

They aim 3'20'' per lap instead of 3'30'' as a limit.

Did someone get what exactly the plan is for the hydrogen cars? It was hard to understand the English translation in the video for me, it's been too quiet compared to the French.

Edit: I listened again and I think the plan is to have a Hydrogen Category for 2024.

Efficiency will be "regulated", so competing on petrol consumption seems off the cards to me.

More about 2024/hydrogen:

https://www.autosport.com/wec/news/1...e-mans-by-2024

Quote:
The WEC revealed that seven major manufacturers and part makers are actively developing the technology to set the conditions for the new class.

"We are focused on practical research so that we are ready for 2024 and the introduction of a hydrogen class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans."

No further details on how the class would operate alongside its pre-existing tiers were revealed, or any technical specifications regarding hydrogen power.
Seven manufacturers? Actual road car manufacturers? That would be a quite high number considering how the hydrogen hype seems to have waned in past couple of years.

All right now, let's not forget that this is the first draft of the rules and there will almost certainly be changes before they're completely finalzied. I for one find it highly unlikely that a spec eCU will make it into the final rulebook, just to name one thing.

There've been some promising developments in hydrogen production(the biggest problem for hydrogen powered cars has generally been handling large-scale production) the past few years, but since research is still ongoing nobody's getting hyped for it yet. We'll see what happens come 2024.

That said, the quote says seven manufacturers "and part makers." For all we know that means only one manufacturer is interested.

Does this cannibalize the GTE class? Will that become more customer car focused in the future? Or even scrapped for GT3?

Engine cog/weight/efficiency also regulated, maximum power in the rules
It seems suspension is the only thing remaining free

Is where in the rev range the engine gets that power regulated? Is the torque regulated? Unless they regulate every tiny little detail of every component both aerodynamic and mechanical there's still going to be a wide range of setup and design options that can be influenced.

If DPi has taught us anything, it's that these things matter. Based on everything I'm seeing, there is still plenty of room to work with for an interested manufacturer.

In a few months we'll see if any of them really are interested.

This isn't the first time efficiency of the engines has been regulated, either. One of the most beloved classes in history was built around engine efficiency.

GasperG has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
What about LMP2 will the rules stay as they are? The will obviously have to be slowed down, or not?

But there the efficiency was free, not regulated: it was the amount of fuel that was regulated, development was in how to get more bang from the fuel, just like in current F1 regulations.
This is the opposite. If the efficiency wasn't regulated in these regs the F1 ICEs would be a shoo-in with their 50% thermal efficiency at wide-open throttle, AFAIK no other racing engines come even close.

Pretty much same things as in the slide screencaps posted previously, a few more things about ERS supply and clearer wording.
