That's already a given. But the team he runs is literally the only team able to make such a statement, which does give it a bit more validity had it been said by another party.

The last updated Honda engine (introduced in Canada) has not had any decent track time to compare it to the Renault I would've thought.
Honda's latest spec engine has failed miserably, particularly in Hartley's car. So no real data to compare with the Renault. |

The engine will have also run in dynos, and in the shop.
The last update to the Honda engine has done Canada, France, Austria and Silverstone. It's had plenty of track time to validate data. I'm not saying Horner is right, but he is the operator of literally the only team that can make such a statement, and the Honda engine was introduced 4 races ago. So..yeah. |

Red Bull certainly are taking a gamble with regards to next year but then so was STR this year after all the woes McLaren had.

They are using STR as a test mule but as we all know it's not going too well, just like with McLaren and it's now over half way through the season, with two more back to back races before going into the the summer break. RBR must be hoping there is some improvement. If there isn't, I think they may have to consider, they made a mistake.

I am pretty sure I have read that Honda is focusing on the 2019 solution. We may see one more significant upgrade before the end of the season, and no doubt they will work on reliability this season, but we may not see any large difference in the remainder of 2018. I hope I am wrong.

With the way Ferrari is going I'm definitely seeing teams like Haas qualifying in front of the Red Bulls next year.

That's a good call, and it raises an interesting point. Behind RBR, the mid-field is tightly packed. Renault, Haas Force India and McLaren are only separated by ~20 points. If you get leapt by one midfield team, the chances are you'll lose out to them all.

Qualifying? I think we could see multiple Haas podium positions with any mechanical trouble or accidents. They weren't too far off today and think the race could be interesting for them.

For me, it's very good news. Time we had some change to the 'old order'. With Sauber looking as though they're fast improving as well (with Leclerc, anyway), its quite refreshing.

I did and that's why I went to their website, to find out who their sponsors are. Their significance, or otherwise, seems to be purely your interpretation.

But if the change is just that instead of 3 teams fighting for potential wins we'll just have 2, how is that good news?

Er, I didn't see it like that at all. I don't see Red Bull tumbling down to the lower order....

STR is just a test bed for RBR for 2019

Imagine if RBR had the Honda this year. They’d be a clear third in the constructor points.
Oh yes, just like now. |

That Honda engine is very schizophrenic and it's going to weigh down the RBR challenge next year. Maybe they are planning to develop an in-house engine during the interval should the Honda deal not pay off. Maybe that's the next frontier for the team.
