teams wont race vw or audi in wtcr because those cars will have no development or support and just become more uncompetitive

ok but also TEAM MULSANNE never had official support from Alfa and yet also thanks to compensation weight they have been able to achieve good results in some rounds.

This is why I'm not sure that there won't be any team who will use audi or vw next year and moreover we have to remember the rule of this year that doesn't allow to each brand to have more than 4 cars. If it won't change that rule it will be impossible to SLR team who is running with VW and to Cometoyou who is running with AUDI to switch to other cars (for example Hyundai or Link or Honda).

yes but that team build and continue to develop and support those cars. thats a lot a lot different to NO further development or support from vw or audi.

why would a team spend millions to race an already out of date car with no chance of going forward?

Because if car is still competitive the team could decide to develop by itself during the season.

Anyway if it should be like you said it will be hard to replace 8 cars considering that MG (with MG6) and MAZDA (with MAZDA 3) have not any plan to enter in wtcr atleast in 2020. The only solution would be to remove the block of 4 cars for each brand.

I'd like them to up it to 5 but max 3 car teams (with Lynk and Hyundai it's essentially been 4 car teams this year).

For example, 3 "works" Hyundais like we have this season plus 2 from a smaller team like Target. You could have a grid of 5 CUPRAs, 5 Hyundais, 5 Hondas, 4 Alfa, 3 Lynk, 2 Peugeot, 2 Opels or something like that.
Evantra is online now

But VW and Audi will continue to support those cars. Back in August Audi send a letter to customers saying they are not building a new car for 2020 and they will continue to support the current model

The last paragraph of which stated

"In Addition to the racecar you are inimitably familiar with, the experience you have gained, our stable spare parts prices the known operating cost, plus our stable customer support structures will continue to be stable factors for you in the 2020 season, The current Audi RS3 LMS will be the touring car we will rely on in the 2020 season, we will inform you about possible new developments in due time".

support doesn’t just mean selling spare parts to the teams. support can also be financial and technical. no private team is going to waste a lot of money to buy and race old model vw golfs in a world series that will have no development and no technical assistance and will just get slower each race compared to the others. why would they do that?
