So we're not going to have the rule changes till 2022 now. Seems everything that can go wrong has gone wrong. Have to wait another season for closer racing, although at this time I just want to see racing full stop. For all we complain about what is wrong with F1, it's the old cliche, you miss it more when it's gone.

Not only delayed rule change, but the suggestion here is that teams Weill use theOr 2020 chassis next year!

It seems like all the teams are pretty happy with their chassis... |

Help with any Budget Cap restrictions too. I think the new regulations have been put off until 2022 but not the budget cap, that is still on for 2021..

Future Rule Changes
Of course there were once was a time a car could last several seasons like the Maserati 250F or the Williams FW07. It will be hard for those who’s cars aren’t fast enough this season, but of course they can always upgrade their cars. Might also be a problem if Merc have a dominant car for this season, as there a more chance of the status quo contuining

The last multi season chassis was the Mac 17 which I think ran for 3 years, and got better each year which was quite amazing!! |

The MP-17 was introduced in 2002 and an updated version they used for 2003 as a stopgap for MP-18 which never raced

The MP4-17 was raced in 2002 and 2003 because the MP4-18, which was designed for 2003, suffered crash test and reliability problems.

It was renamed 17D for 2003, the D standing for 'development'. A bit odd, given that all actual development was directed towards the absolutely hateful MP4-18.
And still they nearly nabbed a driver's title. |

Yeah, that title chance was mainly due to Kimi’s consistency and the new for 2003 points system. Still it was quite an achievement considering

Presumably McLaren will need a new chassis in 2021 to pair with their new Merc engine deal no?

Also does Ferrari show up with the same car in 2021 as the one that let them down in pre season testing this year?
And if the rules get pushed back does another team (racing point clone) show up with a DAS feature? |

DAS is an interesting one as the chassis design would have to allow it as the chassis design is fixed. McLaren should be able to fit the Merc motor as all the location points are common to all engines along with overall dimensions. However there may be issues related to things like cooling etc.

is the chassis fixed?
i thought the 2021 rules had just been pushed back to 2022 and if the 2020 rules apply to 2021 now, then DAS should be allowed for 2021(as the rule excluding it has now been pushed to 2022)...rather teams, as always, should presumably be allowed to build as many new tubs as they want provided they adhere to the 2020 regs. this is all assumption on my part so could be very wrong on this. |

It's probably for the best they are keeping the same cars for next season. Maybe they can reduce the downforce on them to not leave us too disappointed, but I'm probably dreaming

Also, when they say "chassis" what exactly do they mean? And as much as they say things will be frozen, teams will develop as much as they can before 2021 season. Richard |

Teams have now been banned from any further development of 2022 cars this year.

I think the teams have realized the need to enforce it themselves. The money being restricted by reduced racing gives FOM/FIA a chance to really put the screws to teams they think are jumping the gun. I'm guessing you'll find more than a few restrictions being snuck in the fine print requiring disclosure of time and large penalties for cheating it. If they don't add them now there's no better time

Further to this year's ban, teams are looking to a delay of the new rules until 2023.
