Just spoke with HRT about this (and a few other issues) and the general comment was - good.
As it was said to me, watch the people say 'Why are we going to China - Ford and Holden don;t sell cars there' (the reply to that was 'Watch this space...') and it was also pointed out that the way the Chinese economy is growing the sponsors throughout V8 generally all have an interest in that region of Asia-Pacific... |

Not sure about this one.
Must be commercially driven through sponsor exposure to big Chinese market - do many existing sponsors sell into that market?. But must be very expensive to stage - who underwrites it? Will it use the proposed F1 GP track (or be just another bloody street race)? |

Actually, credit where credit is due, normally with any form of announcement the rumours are spread all over the net well in advance... heck, if anything we could expect something in the Middle East... but I suppose you would have to fly your jumbo jets the long way around the world to get there

Maybe AVESCO has no worthwhile news on teams, cars etc to reveal so they put this out.

For the good of the sport, i hope HRT doesn't dominate this year or they may as well take the whole series to China. There won't be anyone here that will be watching a Commodore only series.

Query: is there "that" much difference in the end if the series is dominated by one or the other, if they are the "same" car under the skin, it really then becomes the teams and drivers that make the difference and thus should be supported?
ie the "manufacturer" (which must be considered an ironic term for cars that contain so little in terms of production parts) becomes irrelavent? (bloody hell, it really is becoming NASCAR isn't it? |

Pete- I think with the timing of it, it's been in the pipeline for some time. I don't think you'd fly over to China and have a ceremony on the spur of the moment..

Hopefully it works and attracts more sponsors thus keeping the series strong.

I still say they should get it right in Australia first. If Tasmania were to get a round and WA to keep theirs that would be a start.
What about the stupid decision to drop Qld's 500 race and give it a 300k race. Gee that makes sense. |

QLD lost the 500 because nobody would pay the $X00,000 fee, but they found someone in Melbourne who would
But agreed, the Tasmania round was the biggest sporting event in Tasmania... oh well |

Why would you have a different fee for a 500k race compared to a 300k race. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

The 500 is a showcase event etc etc..
How much do you think AVESCO charged for Indy last year? |

Doesn't it strike you as odd that the promoter of the 3 'enduro' events is IMG?? (Adelaide, Bathurst and Sandown - Davo is only hiring the venue to them). Even Canberra when it ran.... Doesn't it have something more to do with the fact that QLD was promoted by Octagon and not IMG??? (and, btw, you aren't going to tell me that SEL no longer have any ties to IMG are you? Maybe they'll dump the Special Event at Eastern Creek after one year if it doesn't work out.

Basically there would still be a QLD 500 if the QLD Government (through the QEC) and the other involved parties would cough up the wanted money, however, it would be incredibly hard to fill the QEC gap. Sure, Ocotogon wouldn't help, but if you are to believe reports that TC gets along with the head honcho of Ocotogon, then I wouldn't think that it is all knives and daggers.
Of course there is an SEL-IMG link, but perhaps I should have re-phrased it, the money isn't in QLD, and the money from the Melbourne event winds up back at the Gold Coast The ATCC is still awarded to the V8 winner, but the series isn't known as the ATCC. |

The EC round is a one off event for this year, so that would open the calander a bit.

However, having said this, the CAMS web site has no readily or apparent link available in order to check eithr current or past CAMS category champions. Why is that? Maybe they don;t really want to recognise anyone any more (except national office employees of course....) |
