Just a quick thought:
Who won the first LMP 675 at Le Mans? Maybe we should make David Brabham an honourary Canadian! That said, the rules to which Multimatic had to race are awful. They just made the best of a bad situation. |

One more thing about Multimatic: What's this doing on a Grand-Am car?
See: http://www.grandamerican.com/photos/...157&photo=1016 for the full image. If the portion I'm posting contravenes copyright, Ayse, feel free to pull it. |

Yes! that's what I was talking about in the latter stages of the race, when Speed Channel's cameras were checking over the front brake pads being replaced. They seemed to hover over the area where the "offending" stickers were. maybe free advertising for ALMS on the sly... |

I believe the chassis was built by GForce.

I kinda wondered about that Panoz sticker myself.
Any ideas, folks? |

Y'know, with Multimatic being based in Canada, and two drivers being local, you'd think there'd be more coverage than the "...in other news" wire blurbs that show up in the Toronto Sun, Globe and Mail and Toronto Star. In fact, they seem completely unaware of the nationality angle. The Toronto Star only lists Empiringham as "from Toronto," The Sun had a little blurb mentioning the two were from Toronto (while another story that was Yates/NASCAR related said Maxwell is from Uxbridge, which is an hour away from Toronto), and the Globe also listed them as "from Toronto." No mention of Multimatic being from Canada, or (in some cases) that they were involved at all.
I guess it says something about how much we pay attention to Sportscars. (Although, the Star has been working pretty well with Mosport to promote ALMS the last couple of years) |

Perhaps he's unaware that GForce is a Panoz Motorsports company.

Not to mention, the engine is said to have links to Elan Power Products, the same folks that power the LMP01, R&S MkIIIc, and others.
...just imagine if that DSP HAD won the overall. How much fudging and hedging that would happen when the car's specs would be released. Oh, the squirming that would happen... |

The Ford engine in the Multimatic had been built by Robert Yates....
However, it could have had Elan Performance Products as part of the build-up... |

Actually, I *didn't* know that Gforce was a Panoz company. Thanks for the info, tho.

I think we all knew what to expect from this race. I was as disappointed as anyone to see the small car count and lack luster performance of the new DSP cars. But i really think with some more time and testing these cars will put on a decent show, one worth watching. My congrats go out to the Racers Group Team on a well deserved victory.

That VW beetle was run by a local guy (Gunter Schmidt from Midland Ont.) in the Canada GT challenge cup. Basically a club racer series.
I think that maybe the Panoz-Multimatic link is due to Multimatic doing some development work on the Panoz LMP07. Maybe the two machines are sharing parts. Hopefully not the slow ones |

I saw a team clad in red overalls with IMSA logos a foot tall on the backs of them, in that montage they did at the end of the show. I'm sure that escaped the notice of someone or other at Grand Am!
You know what those DSP cars look like to me? Someone's attempt to draw a Rothmans Porsche from memory. Someone about 90 years old with a crayon. |

Brant, what Cooper was that?
..."it strikes me that that little Cooper could have won this years race."
The only Cooper in the first Daytona Continental (1962) was the one Roger Penske was driving, if i recall correctly, and it did not finish. Now, on the other hand, if you're talking about gurneys Lotus, that he powered across the line on the starter motor, that's another story..... |
