Peugeot 905
Has anyone got any info about these very beautiful cars that ruled Sportscar races in 1992 and 1993??
I'm especially looking for info on the 905 Evo2 that tested at the Magny-Cours race of the WSC 92'. |

Evo 2 looked very like the 2003 Bentley.
Produced hige downforce and would have been quicker than 1992 F1 car (the 1992 car was already as quick as a midfield F1 car). In 1992 the 905 Evo won pole at LM with a 3.21 (compared to 3,29 for R8 in 2002). However bere in mind the 1992 circuit was about 3 seconds quicker than the 2002 circuit due to track changes. The 905s used for qualifying in 1992 were also T-cars built especially for qualifying rather than the race cars as the R8s were. This alone probably gained them another couple of seconds a lap. In race spec all Group C cars were much slower than in qualifying particularly the turbo cars (low race boost) and the 3.5l atmo cars (low race revs). The current cars can run close to qualifying pace for the whole 24 hours. Last edited by JAG; 15 Jun 2003 at 22:38. |

Yes, I knew the "links" between the 2003 Bentley and the Evo2 (though I just HATE this year Bentley. last years one was much nicer).

I agree. But then, given your name, I guess we'd agree on a lot of things! Welcome to the forum!

The original 905 wasn't that great - the XJR14 blew it away in the first half of 1991. As a result, Peugeot speeded up their development and came on strong at the end of the season with three wins (I've always thought they copied some of the aerodynamic bits of the Jag, but that might be unfair!), just missing out on the title.
For 1992, Jags and Mercs pulled out, leaving Toyota as Peugeots only real opposition. They got close but, overall, the Peugeots were too strong and won the final Group C championship in 1992 and Le Mans in 1992 and 1993. |

Rumours in 92 were talking about subterranean collaboration between Peugeot , Reynard and Judd to develop the 905 Evo much quicker. Was that rumour founded and did it cross the Channel ?
I must admit some anger against those UFO's who killed the old Group C. (after putting them some 100kg of ballast...) |

Hum, I was not clear about my oppinions
Chofar, you are right saying Sport 3,5 killed Group C and I very much hate that fact as you do (almost anything cannot beat the beauty of a Sauber C11 or 962 Short Tail). What I did (or do) about the 905 or the XJR-14 is also their beauty (repeating myself) and their engineering. A sort of European Can-Am (hope no one bans me for saying this ). I certainly won't ban you, as I'd like to see a European can-Am serie again ! 1000 cv on the track... remember the 917 Can-Am shape ? [/B][/QUOTE]
917 Can-Am???? The Porsche+Audi connections (see the other threads ) go down to the 917/30! Even though, I don't like it as the 917LH or the 917/20 (pink pig), it is certaintly more beautiful than this year Bentley (what a shame they riuned the aesthetics "just" to win Le Mans) |
