Does anyone out there remember the very quick Formula Ford racer Trevor Van Rooyen from South Africa? He was RAC British champion in 1977 in a Royale and lost out by only one point to Nigel Mansell in the Brush Fusegear championship. I met him again at Snetterton on Sunday...he is back running young South African Stephen Simpson. Trevor built the famous FF engine 'patch' which had many race wins after being blown up and 'patched' once he had returned to ZA. Anyone out there remember?

Hi stirling, I'm afraid that's just before my time (though one of my earliest memories features Jim walsh and Derek Daly in FFord at Silverstone) I didn't really start paying proper attention to racing till '81 really. When I was 9.

Was he related to Basil?
I have heard of the famous 'Patch' engine... must have been damaged in just the right way to overcome some problem built in by Ford... |
