Monday 5 January 2004 - The Jaguar X-Type SCV8 in its new race livery will be in pole position as the Star of the Show at Autosport International (NEC, 8-11 January) when the all-new for 2004 Championship is unveiled to the world press at 9.30am on the Thursday (8 January) the official show media and trade day.

Remaining on the Autosport stage for the 4 days of the show, the 550bhp, V8, RWD Jaguar and the SCV8 team will be on hand to answer questions on the most exciting new championship to feature on British circuits for many years.

Four times BTCC Champion Andy Rouse and joint SCV8 series creator Pete Hall commented: “This is a fantastic position for SCV8 in its inaugural year. To be in pole position at Autosport's own show, an event that is established and recognised worldwide and sets the scene for the season ahead, is in deed a great honour and positions the SCV8 championship as an important part of British motorsport for 2004 and beyond”.

Call me an old cynic but other than being in a new livery what's the big deal. We've seen pictures of that car several months ago. I can't help but feeling it's still the only car built. Now if they had one of the other cars as well as the Jag then I'd be a little more excited.

Maybe the ONLY opportunity to see it in the flesh this year?
I am there on Friday, so hope to get some photos. It will be interesting to see what other info is available for the series - are they planning to announce anything at the show?

Lucky me is going on the Thursday...if I see it i'll try and get pics and information and report back to you (But im guessing that pics/info will be on the autosport website within minutes of the show being opened!)

Spotted that one of the ads in Motorsport News for SCV8 now includes the Ford Mondeo ST220 and the MG ZT as eligible models for this year.

The organisers always seem to be using the Jaguar body shape for promoting the series. Why not a bit of variety please? I want to see t'other cars!!

Just back from the Autosport - they said today that in the next 7-10 days will be confirming the next two more of the franchise teams, they will be running MG ZT's and Ford Mondeo's.

I'm sure I read somewhere (Autosport?) that Honda would be one of the next manufacturers to be represented. Any ideas as to who the new teams are? I understand that there is a max of 5 franchise teams for 2004, who have to build 4 cars each and run at least 2 cars themselves.

When I went on Thursday I almost missed it! Really, it was that boring...I mean, I was expecting something really good and what did I find...a green Jag...I mean, come on, a little bit more colour couldn't had hurt.

I nearly missed it too, I thought they'd have had a big stand of their own promoting the series as hard as possible - what did they actually have? One car and no backup (Dates, additional info etc etc). Still only the one car as well.

I hope the series does get of the ground - it sounds like it should produce good racing. At the moment though you've got to wonder where the rest of the cars are - the racing season fires up again soon and they've still only got one car built.

personally i dont think its gonna happen...with only 1 car built and only 12 weeks till the start of the season....to get 18 cars built....hmmmmmm...id love to see it work but maybe it would be better if touring cars adopted these regs rather than a new series

I was really disappointd - a car - no leaflets, no stand - nothing.

It really looks to me as if it is going down the pan
