As long as they can make them sound better than the F1 versions

Well it will definitely sound better, The Captain will make sure of that. And off the shelf hybrid is purely to sell it to car companies. No one will care if it even works, just slap the stickers on and go.

Indycar has adapted to modern times and still manages to produce great racing. That's what I enjoy about it

I wish they switched to V8 engines. I mean, the 1975 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 had a 2.0L.

There's been very little technological development because it's a spec series. There is no one to challenge Dallara. If chassis manufacturing was opened up, then we might see some new developments. Recently, their was a brief period of technological development, if it can be called that, when Chevy and Honda developed their own aero-kits but that was short lived.

I do miss the chassis competition, even if it was bought off the shelf rather than built from scratch. At least we have engine competition

Penske designed their own chassis. Their last was the PC 27B. They eventually succumbed to Reynard, though the Reynard 2Ki and 01i chassis incorporated the sidepods from the PC 27B, earning it the nickname Reynkse. All American Racers also produced their Eagle chassis, the 987 and 997 for the 1998 and '99 seasons. It was AAR who brought Toyota in.

As I recall the series who allowed and wanted chassis development failed miserably. And don't blame the IRL, CART was dead well before that. Budgets were F1 levels without nearly the income, teams couldn't afford it. It wasn't like there was this great variety of WINNING chassis. There wasn't and it was a giant dumpster fire waiting to destroy everything around it. By the end it was as pathetic as the IRL was at the start. Hell you can barely get full grids with the restricted costs and development now. And your race winning team list is as small as F1. There's no fat tobacco checks coming in or illegal drug money.

IndyCar has full grids, on average it's 24 cars. F1 has a grid of 20 cars and there's a far greater number of different drivers and teams winning in IndyCar than in F1. |

It helps the variety of tracks Indy races on. Ovals, street courses, road courses, even the odd airfield. Different circuits suit different drivers and teams

Wasn't there some discussion here lately that Toronto potentially couldn't accommodate the expected grid size for that race? A few years ago there were 20 cars most races. It's up to 23-24 now. That doesn't jive with the dire outlook you have of the series. |

Today is the 5-year anniversary of the epic Indy race at Nola Motorsports Park. I brought my young son and it rained like hell. They cancelled all the support races and red flagged the actual race. Huge disappointment. But there is a reason that track hasn't been races on again......

What, racing below the water table in a place where it rains during the rainy season isn't a good idea? Never, it must lead to great racing.

IndyCar races are as thrilling as ever. What it lacks is big TV ratings and big sponsors.

R.I.P. Buddy Lazier.
He won the IRL sanctioned 1996 Indy 500 as well as the IRL driver's title in 2000. https://www.autosport.com/indycar/ne...t-racer-lazier Edit: major faux pas. It's Bob Lazier who passed away, not Buddy Lazier. Last edited by bjohnsonsmith; 20 Apr 2020 at 18:43. Reason: Major faux pas. |
