Jamesd should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
2008 season

Hi

I am looking to help out a race team for the 2008 season, I dont mind doing any sort of racing, I am based in Swindon, I have no transport, so if any teams either have people who work for them in Swindon, they could possible pick me up or if you are based near a train station.

I am 17 and go to Lackham college doing a first diploma in motorsport. I am looking at doing a full season, unpaid, I dotn mind doing any jobs as it is all experience and that is what I need to make my self stand out when I go and get a job.

Last year, I did a full season at castle combe and a few FPA meetings and did refulling at the 24 hour Britcar race.

You can either post on here or email me on james.dicks@ntlworld.com

James, with all due respect this is motorsport don't wait to be asked to do a job.

If you're not applying for an advertised position you need to write to as many teams as you can including a covering letter and CV.

My first job in racing was at Ricardo Motorsport and having pestered the MD for a few months he finally said prove to me you want this, so I booked a B&B (the factory was 200 miles from home) for a 4-week period during the school holidays and told him I'd start two weeks on Monday and what would be my first job?...

Having had no replies in 8 days bumping the thread clearly isn't working so maybe a change of approach is required

Hi

I understand what your saying.

But the people i have contacted from teams are very rude to me and people say teams need help and i cant see how they can say that, i thought a team would like free help, i would pay for my accomadation, food and travel.

Also i need somehwere close to my house, as i dont drive i need somehwere near a train station.

Quite honestly I'd concentrate on getting a driving licence and a car before trying to find motorsport work experience as without both you don't have a hope of landing a decent racing job. Get a job at Tesco's and pay your way through your driving test and buy a car. Then come back next season...

Hi

Thanks for theta, my first driving lesson is in 3 weeks.

I managed to do last year with a team, without driving, only cause they were from Swindon, but they have packed it in htis year.

I have found two teams in swindon, but they have not replied to me email yet.

You said you don't have any transport, Why not get a scooter? I'm also looking for experience as I hope to do a course Motorsport Engineering at West Notts College this September but Mansfield seems to be dead in terms of motorsport(unless someone knows something I don't).

Gives you transport for now, also it's much cheaper than driving and in some cases faster than cars especially during rush hours.

Hi

Just to let people know

I have been in talks with teams, and all of them have been very rude to me and not helpful

One team even said i dont have enough experiece, well that is what i am looking for.

I think this motorsport stuff is wrong, as i have people saying get as much experience as you can , i try and people just basically tell you to get lost, so i wish i had not bovered with motorsport

I understand it is hard, but everybody starts at the beginning, and at the bottom, but no body gives you a chance, they probley think, they are young, and wont do work, well this is true in somecases but with me i will work my backside oof to get somewhere is the area. I would start at 6am and finish at 7pm, dont mid doing what, as long as i am at meetings and i am always learning.

Why dont you try to get a regular job in a garage and learn how to use the tools, you may find with an apprenticeship behind you you would get taken more seriously. When I got a job in motorsport I was already a skilled and capable mechanic if I had'nt have been I doubt I would have even been interviewed.
