Where are they now?

Now I know who will be able to answer most of these questions!! But thought it was time to throw a few at people!!

Firstly UK, Mike Shield, Dimi (still selling fruit or back home??), Gary Baker, Baz Hath is in autograss, Squibby.

Europe, where have the likes of Pekka, Olle, Sven Lest, Martinsen, and many others like them gone, amazed Martin Oversen isnt stil around, he seemed well committed to the sport.

I know that Thor Holm passed away, any ideas about guys like Nortedt and Skoggy??

Also like to no where my old favourites, Wahlund, Nordstrom and giant viking Vidar Sauthon are, seen Steve Palmer at Lydden a few times would love to see him back.

Wicked yes, Orjan Wahlund, used to race a Beetle then brought a really quick 4WD Escort with a BDT engine in it, I rememebr him roofing it at Estering in 88!!

And who can forget Vidar, nevrer the quickest driver but was a great character with a viking tache and went everywhere on his quad!!
As for Nordstrom, somehow won the Rallycross GP, but then he was always quick there in the Beetle, then did naff all else, but a really nice bloke!!

Didnt know Squibby was still racing, great to know.

Just a few miles south of Höljes, in Sysslebäck, Olle Arnesson owns a Truck company. They mainly transport timber I think. Did you know that Olle and some friends of him decided to build an SS for the Swedish Rally? They used some “timber roads”, cut down some threes and connected them to design a Special Stage for the Swedish Rally.
Martin Iversen and his family owns the paper factory Glomma Papp in Sarpsborg Norway. Do you remember the yellow Glomma Papp Ford’s of Jan Arthur and son Martin? They even sponsored a rival?!? And a Swedish one!?! Per Eklund.
I think Anders Nordstedt is, and has always been a fire fighter. A few years ago Anders and Team Motorsport together with SAAB and SBF developed the SAAB Rescue Car. A SAAB 9 5 with fire fighter and ambulance equipment. Driven by an experienced racing driver and a doctor and a fire fighter on board.
Björn Skogstad now runs an internet business with SMS updates and stuff! He used to be almosed like a captain of Norwegian rallycross I think. Var det inte så eller har jag helt fel med Björn Jan Kåre? Jag vet ju att RC fotograf extraordinair är här på forumet ibland!

By the way! God Jul! Merry Christmas everyone!!!

I do but can't recall him in a 6R4; Escort springs to mind?

Gun-Britt, Olle’s sambo, who runs the motel/petrol station "Värmlandsporten" on "Norra Ny" for him, is from Sysslebäck and they both live in her house there now. But Olle’s company (Arnessons Åkeri AB) is further down the road at Likenäs. Some years ago Olle had a bad car accident during the winter in the woods. As he had big problems with his legs afterwards he was trying to build an Audi with some kind of automatic gearbox but never found enough time for a comeback.

Possibly Martin Iversen lost his interest in RX some years ago when his dad Jan-Arthur passed away… Martin had some health problems of his own anyway.

Anders Norstedt (no additional 'd') has more or less lost his Saab backing for RX when Per Eklund "came home" from Subaru. BTW, Anders’ brother Cronge Norstedt, who was the FIA scrutineer at many ERC rounds for a couple of years, is also an Uppsala fireman in daily life.

AFAIK Bjørn Skogstad did run an in-door karting centre in Oslo for some time. I was told that nowadays he runs a PR company and has something to do with the Rally of Norway also.

Think John Hay was one of the few drivers that tried compete with the supercars in a home brewwed special!

He used a Mk3 rwc Escort, hink it was two tone blue, not sure what motor he was using but it was a turbo Ford, maybe turbo Pinto or BDA??

Much like Terry Briggs in the Mazda 323, remember that? Or Pete Brown in the Escort turbo 4wd, Jeremy Crush in a turbo Escort, Mike Jennings in that awesome RS200 engines Fiesta.

Some great ingenuity and back door stuff, oh and I forgot Colin Claxton in his lovely Millington 4wd Fiesta!

Terry Briggs car was semi-works but they never had the money to develop enough power from the engine.

Haha, you would get teh same response from Achim Warmbold of the WRC team aswell, they couldnt compete with Lancia or Ford, rememebr the 323 was only a 1600, later an 1800, totally useless against the Group B cars.

Thanks for the info about John Hay. I thought he was pulling my leg about having competed against the likes of Gollop and Doran. He did say it was a 6R4 he had. Says a he has a share in an ex Richard Burns recce car.

I do not understand what some of you have against Tim Whittington? Is there anyone else that Wright’s more or better of British rallycross than Tim??
I think Tim’s doing a great job bringing us news of rallycross in ERC 24 and in Rallycross World.

Lets just say that from where you are in Sweden you will see a different Tim Whittington to what we see here in Britain. Lets just say there are more people in British rallycross who would rather not have Tim Whittington involved than those who do. Enough said

Exactly

Have never had a cross word with the bloke, but having press people involved with running the sport is never a good idea is it!

My comment was a not a criticism by the way.
