VMRS R2 Sandown Raceway
Sandown Raceway hosts Round 2 of the Victorian Motor Racing Series this weekend where a massive entry list of over 200 cars spread across 10 different categories will compete in a total of 50 races.
The action packed line-up will see incredible machinery from Ferrari’s to Lamborghini’s and Porsche’s competing in the highly exotic Sports Cars category while the young guns of Australia race wheel to wheel in the competitive Formula Ford Championship. A new initiative will see the Red Hill Car Park opened for the first time ever for this event allowing spectators to view the racing from a banked spectator point in their cars, getting them closer to the action than ever before. Full pit-lane access will get spectators up close and personal to drivers and cars and in addition there will be available tours of pits and garages detailing the exact operation of a race team throughout the meeting. The rare opportunity of winning a hot lap in a V8 Supercar is also available to all who attend the event with Tony D'Alberto Racing on show with their Bathurst winning ride car taking hot laps. Ticket prices are $15 Saturday, $20 Sunday or pay per car load when entering the Red Hill Car Park for only $20 while children Under 15 will enter free. The red hill car park is located at Dandenong Road where you can sit and watch in the car or on a picnic rug enjoying the spectacle. Those who enter dandenong rd will be given a pass out where they can then walk around to the main gate entrance and enter there for free and roam the pits and sit in the grandstand. There is plenty on show and be sure not to miss it. You can also purchase a hot lap if you are not a lucky winner! |

I agree with PVDA, entry to State races has been free for spectators

The practice has been to charge an entry fee. Important part of making ends meet at Sandown and Phillip Island. .The Sandown rounds have attracted paying customers in reasonable numbers as the facilities are excellent and generally there is a real buzz around these meetings.
The number of spectators have been better than the National series of 2 types! Dare I say the racing is better with greater diversity and a more rat a tat program.Despite the comments of some-this applies both at Sandown and Phillip Island. Competitors like these venues and support them. A comment that has been made and this is for you Big Trev-- more racing does not necessarily make better racing( be that more races on the program or more meetings) or better value for competitors- it has the effect of spreading everything to thin. The competitirs group needs to be listened to. The net main point is -- spectators will come(and pay) if the entertainment value is there-- ie racing with real numbers |

To get back to the racing-- Sportscar field is ripper -- good numbers despite about 10 latish withdrawls. Cars from 5 states . Sportscar Vic Championship Rd 1 and Intermarque Rd 1 also inclusive.

Consider a V8 race day which costs an average of $50+ and you get around 6 or 7 races or a State round which charges around $20 and you get nearly 30 races if your lucky and it's a bonus if it's free entry. The fun and lack of BS at state level events beats the V8's hands down. I was surprised at the number of people who turned up to a mid week (publicised) V8 Test Day at Winton recently, I only wish some of our state level events had those sort of numbers |

I'll be there..
this meeting "could" be your last chance to see the 360GT in anger... also be running a newbie in a 360C... Look out for, and remember this name.. Nick O'halloran.. he'll be seen around. |

glad I'm making the trip over FF, Will miss the sound of the 360GT around the track. I'm guessing Ted's off season tests went well with a different car? (he spoke about it at sandown last December)

There looks to be some interesting machinery with Wayne Henning in the Porsche, Darren Hossack in an Audi, the ex-Bob Middleton Camaro. Michael Bugelly in the Trans Am Mustang, Neil Crowe in his VH with Gen 3 Chev while in terms of young guns it looks like Elliot Barbour will make his Porsche 944 debut while Leigh Nicoloau and Luke Ellery fight at the front of the Formula Ford field.
Talking of prices, 5 people can enter for $20 TOTAL, $4 a pop, when entering via the red hill car park which gives you a fantastic view of the circuit inside the comfort of your own car or on a picnic blanket! Should be a good weekend! |

I can't wait, Hopefully Darren Hossack's Audi can have a decent run. Shouldnt be to much competition if it does. Shame about the 360GT, stunning car and sounds the goods.

Sounds like it's going to be a good event. A shame I'll be out at Calder on the Saturday.

Hossack Audi in the 1 .9's and looked to be doing it easily( if lap times that quick are ever easy!) .This will be super quick when fully sorted. Excellent effort in S/S by Neil Bryson in the Calibra to get 3rd with the car looking and sounding really good.

Hossack under Ricciardello's race lap record according to natsoft. 1:09.36 cf 1:09.46. It is super quick now. Will be interesting to watch the car's performance progression. Sounds fantastic at WOT going up through the 'box powering up the back straight.
Anyone know the reasons behind the drop in performance during the Sports Cars race of Brett Bedggood? Car was quick early on, but dropped up to 4 sec/lap, settling into 1m19s for the last few laps. Had to nurse tyres? Lost a gear? Engine still sounded OK. |

Bedggood burnt thru boost hose coming into contact with hot parts-- so no boost. Went pretty well for N/A engine with low HP!

Cheers S3! Brett did a damned good job with the disabled car then. He was doing the 1m19s driving a very defensive sort of line.

Today was a great day with plenty of action on the track and good to see a few cars sitting at the Red Hill Car park (Dandenong road) sitting in their cars which is a great viewing point for everyone with camera's or family!
Tomorrow at 12 there is also a treasure challenge for the kids with a question about every category and there are PRIZES to be won too! Shame about the Formula Ford incidents and the fact that they had to bring back the results a lap which meant Luke Ellery didn't win the race even though he was the first to meet the chequered flag. |

Formula Ford boys were out of control again.
Red flag on the warm up when one stuck it in the wall, aborted start and two safety cars.... All up it was a good weekend although a very late finish not helped by 66 laps of meeting rides in the V8 development series car over two days. A great idea to remove the cars at turn 1 after each event but to spend the extra time having one car do 66 laps.....yeah 22 rides, 3 laps each. Perhaps next year we can have a good hard rethink on the idea. |
