Whats the most embarassing thing you've done as a driver?
In light of olly83's close encounter of the bollard kind, I thought we might all discuss our moments of less-than-prefection while driving.
I've done a couple of embarassing things, I've tried pulling off from a start in 3rd a couple of times, I went into 2nd instead of 4th when shifting from 5th, but what takes the cake for mine is taking on a boom gate... And losing. I basically moved off before the gate had gone up fully... Cue THUMP! on my roof and a nice yellow and black marking on the top and part of the side of my car... |

My housemate needed a new windscreen. He had to go into the city, so I was given the keys to move it 50m from where the repairer was working his magic, to the undercover carpark. A car had gone in through the garage door about 30secs before I approached it, so the door was open. As I got to the point of no return, the door started closing above the newly replaced windscreen. I swiped the card to get the boom gate up so fast I don't think that it registered. Anyway, I panicked and dumped the clutch without waiting to the boom to open. Broke the ****er off with the bonnet, and the security camera caught everything But the windscreen was fine!

I was all ready to post about my incident when I noticed that I was in fact the inspiration for this thread! I feel honoured (In a strange way) but happy that my actions have amused you!!!

I've put diesel in a petrol car, which is a common problem, but my circumstances are a bit more unusual.
I used to work at a car garage during my teen years, showing customers around cars and taking them out for test drives. This couple wanted to take a Mercedes of all things out for a spin, but it needed some fuel. So off I trot getting the fuel can, filling it up and not thinking about it until the customer pointed out whether I should have been filling the car up with a green petrol can. Cue swearing (which looked no doubt worse in front of these already less than amused people) and a big apologetic speech to my boss, who found it funny more than anything. Ironically, even though it took a frantic call to the Mercedes technician and a few repairs to get it going, they bought it! (All £15k of it!) Sadly, I never saw any commission.... |

A long time ago (yes I am quite old!) when car keys were not a sophisticated as they are now, I actually opened, got into and started a car identical to mine!!!
It was only as I was about to drive off that I noticed that the interior was much too tidy for me! Now what are the chances of two cars, identical in colour and with the same key combination, being parked within a few yards of each other? By the way it was a early Mk 1 Escort. |
