Ove Andersson - RIP
Just read that Ove Andersson, the Toyota F1 principal and former rally driver, has been killed whilst competing Milligan Vintage Trial rally in South Africa. Apparently, he was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle after rounding a blind corner.
I'm sure that everyone will want to pass on their condolences to all his family and colleagues. |

This is just horrible news.
One of the nicest and most friendly people I have met. A gentleman in the strictest sense of the word, and someone very passionate about motorsport - in his own reserved manner. To lose him in a freak accident that appears to have not been his fault at all is a tragedy. I remember watching him trying to sneak out of the Australian Grand Prix paddock one year, only to be caught by fans who insisted he sign a bunch of stuff. He looked at me like, "oh no, I've been sprung", and duly headed over to the group to sign all that they wanted. As somewhat of a whipper-snapper in comparison, I had no idea the reverence that so many people held him in, and was shocked by the celebrity status that so many punters gave him. Throughout the few days I spent around him, he was remarkably pleasant and willing to talk candidly about many subjects - personalities, failings of certain teams etc. He had the ability to make you feel far more important than you actually were. It was time that I truly cherish. I still can't quite believe this. My sincerest condolences go to all he knew him well - especially his family and his beloved wife. |

Ove “Påven” Andersson! One of my countries true motor sport heroes!
His long and successful career as a rally driver and team boss for Toyota Team Europe Rally and the Toyota F1 Team shows what passion Ove had for Motor sport. Ove got his nickname “Påven” (The Pope) early in his career because he often drove Italian cars. But it was as the Team Boss for TTE (Toyota Team Europe) he really made his mark! Winning several World titles! And now he is dead. Doing what he loved the best. Driving a rally car! Vila I frid Ove! You are so sadly missed!!! |

Life is cruel,
Last year I spoke with him on the occasion of the Race of Prominents, held during the Laguna Seca Historics. He was one of the least recognised ones, among the likes of Bobby Rahal, Al Unser, Derek Bell and Emerson Fittipaldi. but he was totally at terms with them and enjoyed himself a great deal RIP http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img31181wg4.jpg Last edited by henk4; 19 Jun 2008 at 08:56. |
