HELP 2005 996 RSR or 2006 997 GT3 Cup Car

Hi can anyone tell me which car to buy I am club racer and nearly finished my first season in a 2004 996 cup car and really loved it and i want to upgrade my car to a 2004/5 996 RSR or 2006/07 997 cup car but i am unsure which car to buy which one would be the better car to run and would the running costs be much different with the rsr compared to the cup car also which would have better laptimes on tight circuits the races are all 20 mins long thanks in advance ps what are theese cars worth in very good condition

The 996 RSR would be the faster car, but the 997 Cup would be the cheaper to run and replacement parts are also cheaper for the 997 Cup. If i had to choose between them for club racing i would choose the 997 Cup.

Thanks for the advice i was thinking the 996 rsr would last a long time considering it was designed for 24 hour races and i thought the lap times would be simular as i thought the 997 cup car would be more devoloped as it is a newer car Which car do you think would be a better investment to sell on at a later date

The 997 Cup would be a better investment, based on resale value. The 996 RSR is on its last model years, a lot of 997 RSR is around these days.

I know a guy who is racing a 996 RSR, but he is only doing it for sportscar training purposes, as he is a VW factorydriver. For you, a 997 Cup would be a better investment, as you can update it to a newer spec along the way.

One of the things is the engine refurbisment. There I would suspect that a 996 RSR engine is an expensive one to run by Porsche Motorsport.

Take a very close look at the 997 Cup car's engine drive line connections. This was or is the downfall of the 997. Not quite a perfect fit and may cause and have caused challenges for owners. Plus the 997 is a bit wider then the 996, so some times transport issues come up.

Between the two I would rather have the RSR then the Cup car. But what do I know.

As a club races, the 997 Cup has to be the obvious choice, as said the RSR was build for top level racing (LeMans 24hours) and is much much more highly tuned in every aspect but still very resticted by rules, the 997 Cup is a spec car and therefor has much bigger margins. Yet the laptimes wont differ very much, if anything at all on more twisty tracks, its all up to the driver. I also imagine a 2 year newer Cup car would be in considerably better shape then a RSR for the same money.
Sure, the RSR is way cooler, but I know what I would have choosen if it was my money.

Sorry ..... I dont know enough about it to give you advice . Best of luck with your racing though . Any chance you could post a pic of your car please .

Im from Dublin too . I remember Alec Poole in the Rover , back in the 70's , my bro used to help at his workshop .

Oh yeah ..... another thing , thank god its a Porsche your racing and not a Fiat (Ferrari) ..... any self respecting Irishman wouldnt be seen dead in one of those North African contraptions !!!
