Return of BRG

Well done to the 'Green Audi' team for a spectacular debut at Le Mans - getting a car to the end of the race was a huge success, but getting it on the podium ? Brilliant! Well done!

And the same thing has to be said to the MG team which, despite only very limited testing, was well on the pace. It ran as high as third at one point, and was considerably faster than every other car on the track at different times. Sadly though, the Chamberlain cars failed to make it to the end.

The sheer number of green flags in the crowd, on the campsites and flying from cars as they made their way back to Britain was a sight to behold. Let's hope that the 2002 race can see both teams go one better...

The most amazing single memory of the race itself though (with the possible exception of the sheer carnage which came after the heavens opened) was the slow handclap and whistling by the crowd at the decision to bring the Bentley in for a 4 minute stop/go penalty during the last hour of the race - apparently for a 'yellow flag infringement'

Chatting to some marshals on the ferry late last though, it seems that not a single marshal in the whole place knew anything about this; even less had they reported them.

A strange decision to do this then, perhaps ? Well, yes, until you look at who was running in fourth place at the time... hmmm....

It was the ORECA Chryslers? Anyway wish I could have been there - but even at home watching the telly that Racing Green and Lime green cars made my hairs stand up. Hugh Chamberlain siad on Eurosport that all of the £180 MG jackets had sold out before the start of the race. Amazing.

I couldn't believe how long it lasted - the Eurosport commentators started of saying that there was pelnty of time to spare, then they started getting worried after a while! We even got extra cover because on Eurosport the tennis was cancelled, then on C4 the cricket was cancelled! Brilliant.

SL should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It was excellant seeing the Bentley and MG's racing. Who would have thought that they were reporting a Bentley leading with a Panoz in second, Audi's way down the order.

The flags were waving, horns blaring and cheering each lap, wait to next year it will be packed with Brits. I liked the comment by Radio LM about DR Ulrich asking the Bentley team "Why don't they cheer the Audi's like they do the Bentley?"

They reported later that the Bentley Stop Go was for pit lace speeding. It was 4 min as it was the second offence. Nobody seemed to know when the first offence was although it may have been in the test weekend last month.
