Can someone identify this car?
Testing today, but I (stupidly) didn't look close enough...

It is what it says on the tin. A Mustang IMSA car!
IIRC correct it currently races in the Group C series and was at Le Mans this year. |

It's got weard stripes compaired to all the other 7 Eleven cars
this is the closest I could find to those markings but even that just looks all wrong Link here Not unless it was meant to be the 7-Eleven Mustang GTP IMSA racer # Ludwig/Rahal car but who ever has the car now got the graphics wrong Other option send old Jack an email www.roush.com Edit, here is another one, dont look right though http://alex62.typepad.com/.shared/im.../wollek84a.jpg Last edited by NAC; 30 Oct 2008 at 13:38. |

It's actually an old Riley&Scott Mustang IMSA GTP car. It was the last front engined GTP/LMP car until the Panoz LMP1 of 1999-2002. It was raced in IMSA in the early-mid-80s, and was the forerunner to the Ford Probe-badged mid engined GTP car.

http://www.racingsportscars.com/phot...-02-01-004.jpg More of the 7-Eleven coloured car: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Im...robe_GTP_2.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Im..._Probe_GTP.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Im...robe_GTP_3.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Im...sh_Mustang.jpg The paintjob seems to be an approximation of this: http://www.racingsportscars.com/phot...-04-06-007.jpg but if it is the Maxum, are the 7-Eleven colours authentic for this chassis- I have to admit, the Ford Mustang Probe series of cars are one of the IMSA cars for which the history has always gone over my head... |

the 7-11 Mustangs & Probes were turbo charged 4 or 8 cyl, the Maxum was normally aspirated V8s... The Maxum is the only one I remember with the big engine deck scoop and the wing attached to the car (vice being part of the engine deck).
I don't recall the Maxum ever having 7-11 colors. |

I was there too
The car is a Ford Maxxum GTP, see here (http://www.philstott.co.uk/carswesupport.html) - that's the website of the guys who were running it. The paint scheme is not authentic for a Maxxum as far as I know, but it was run by Roush Racing in the day. There are a few other cars in the historic GTP/GrC series which don't run anthentic colour schemes. The yellow FromA Nissan has got black stripes down either side of it for example.. |

So really, is there much mechanical difference between the Maxxum and the Mustang Probe GTP, besides the engines, roof scoop, and rear wing?

Hmm, IIRC Zakspeed and Roush worked together on the Mustang GTP and the early Probe, but Roush weren't happy with the way Zakspeed handeled the developement of the car and built their own car, i.e. the Maxxum; so I'd guess that there should be considerable differences. Would be ironic -though definitely not inconceivable - if there were none or only very few.

Completely different cars. Only the rear uprights are the same between the cars.

Confirm it's a Maxum, and it was never raced in 7-11 coulors (infact it was debuted black with Applicon as main sponsor). It's very similar to Zakspeed built car because it was designed by the very same man, Englishman Paul Brown, after he left the German company...
