DIY adjustable arms?
Does anyone have any links to information on making your own adjustable suspension arms? Particularly on type of metal, rose joints, other bits used etc? also any sites I can buy the bits from would be great?
My current car is easy to get adjustables for but for next years car I can only get them if I import them and they are very expensive. I'd really like to make them myself. I've got a fairly reasonable grasp of geometry (famous last words), and off to learn some much needed welding skills this weekend!! Many thanks, and appreciate any help Last edited by royalwithcream; 21 Nov 2008 at 15:12. |

What sort of car is it?
Typically you would use a alloy like CroMoly steel, as it has a high enough tensile strength and ductility to do the job, without being overly expensive. |

Cold Drawn Seamless Tube of the right ID from several suppliers on ebay, eg http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Ringwood-Pr...sxQ3asstQQtZkm
Threaded tube inserts and sphericals also from eBay dealers, eg http://stores.ebay.co.uk/McGill-Moto...sxQ3asstQQtZkm The most accessible book about suspension making is the Locost manual, Ron Champion's "Build your own Sports Car", and Staniforth's "Race & Rallycar Source book" and his follow-up, "Competition Car Suspension" go into more theoretical detail. Good Luck! What car are you building? JOhn |
