Official Calder thread
After pre-qualifying, it looks as though John Faulkner, Tyler Mecklam and Phonsy Mullan will be going home early after a wet session today.

You know, they bloke from Happy Days?
He's actually an ex-Commodore Cup runner, and so far this year has been racing in the Konica series, but was 10sec off the pace today. And he drives a VS... |

Phonsy Mullan has done 1 or 2 V8 Supercar races in his VS Commodore.
Last year he was a frontrunner in the Commodore Cup series. The year before he was an also ran in his debut season. I've said it before and I'll say it again, why on Earth do AVESCO cap the field at 32 cars regardless of grid capacity. Time and again, people who've worked bloody hard and spent heaps of money, just to get there, now have to pack up and go home on Friday night. So far, it has only been the smaller names who've mssed out, but it was inevitable that sooner or later one of the big names would be axed on Friday. Well John Faulkner is the first, but i'm sure he won't be the last. WHY?????? |

I know it absolutely sucks....but in Tony's little utopia, all of the 'lesser' teams will be racing in he Konica series, and he would have 16 top flight 2 car teams. Plus it seems to be the maximum grid capacity at a few of the shorter tracks, ever noticed that they can suddenly fit 3 more V8s on the track at Lakeside since this rule came into effect??

Crash, last year CAMS rewrote the rules regarding grid capacity. Previuolsy it was a flat figure for each circuit regardless of the type of car. Eg. Lakeside was allowed 29 Geminis or 29 V8 Supercars.
Now each track has 4 grid capacities, it is a different figure for each type of car. The reasoning is fairly sensible, it takes into account the varying dangers of cars getting close to each other, ie. hordes of HQs wheel to wheel and nose to tail is par for the course, but a flock of Formula Fords getting up close and personal usually ends in tears. So the grid capcity is lower for open cars, also it tends to be lower for faster cars. |

damm..i have tyler mecklam in my dreamdrive TV thingy..big surprise for faulkner..isnt Calder one of his test tracks...just goes from bad to worse for JF doesnt it??
as for Phonsy Mullan ..he was pretty quick in Commodore cup and as stated above has done some rounds in the konica series this year..at Winton he finished 9th in race one which because of the reverse grid rule put him on row 1 for race 2 with daniel Miller. results below are photos i took of the race. Mullen is in the Blue VS and Miller the Yellow one the end result took out Konica front runner Simon wills and thats when he decided to pull out of the series ..allthough he was talked back into it |
