FMCG to V8Supercar... Please!!

Just because these guys say it, will it happen?

Interesting that two FMCG employers of mine over the years have had an interest in motorsport sponsorship, from a concept stage to believing in the executional deliverables...

But the $$$$ were too rich for their blood

Pardon my ignorance but what FMCG company sponsors a football team?

I see banks/telcos/car companies, some CE companies but offhand can't recall any FMCG brands.

Someone needs to get onto Mars or someone that big... Kelly's could run 4 cars with 4 different liveries!

Last one to attract an FMCG brand P. Morris / W. Gardiner?

PMM has had variously, Smiths Crisps, Massel Gravies amongst others on their cars over the years...

Mr Petch had the delicious Peanut Slab

JR's Hungry Jacks Mondeo

Allen Berg's Tic Tac BMW

Vittoria Coffee Peugeot

... they currenty sponsor a ute for George Elliot

That no V8Supercar team has converted these to $$ is interesting

Just a quick response to Mixer's question.

Mission Foods are currently the major sponsor of the Western Bulldogs.

They are a large FMCG brand out of the States that are currently having a crack at Old El Paso on your local supermarket shelves.

Re: this article - sounds like just another part of NASCAR which 'needs' to be woven in to the V8 Supercar formula.

After aping what percentage of NASCAR, will the V8 Supercar hierarchy be happy with their own formula? 70%? 80%? 99%?

The dollars certainly live in that business' marketing budget... can a clever team sponsor hound go get it from them?

Hasnt happened yet.....

That is an interesting one actually.... my son is a Bulldogs supporter, and it was a LOOOOONG way into last season before I actually clicked that Mission was a sponsor and not a statement about some mission to get more Bulldogs members. And even then, I only figured it out because I saw an ad for their product on the back of a bus!

Yes, but these days when faced with buying a product they stock and another brand, I buy the Mission product becuase that way I am indirectly supporting an AFL team.

Having said this, the only things I have bought have been wrap breads.

Who remembers the Sony Autosound Finnigan Commodore? Two different but tidy livieries, silver/red then black/white on that car. Fisher & Paykel on the John Faulkner Racing Commodore, then later on I think the Briggs Falcons.

Retailers - Chandlers on the Paul Weel Commodores, which translated to Betta Electrical as Team Brock. Then Betta on the Triple 8 Fords.

Paul Morris had some movie sponsorship at one point - indirectly through BMW's involvement with the James Bond franchise at the time.

Tony Quinn infamously pulled VIP Pet Foods from V8 Supercar because he felt the telecasts werent supporting the Paragon Motorsport Ford even when running in the top ten.

That money is safe for 5 - 10 years, Graeme Fountain said so. (OOPS, wrong CEO, should be Andrew Demetriou but the ego's are about the same).

AFL will be bedding down Western Sydney and Gold Coast before they add any more teams.

One I always thought had potential was someone like Village Roadshow... they could run a different livery for each event, promoting whatever the next big blockbuster is at the time.

Promotional budgets for films tend to be handled case by case, demographics being different for each film, and tend to be more studio driven than distributor driven, or at least that was how I understood the relationship.

I think demographic being the big word here talking about FMCG for V8s. What's the percentage of male viewership vs female?

This is where a lot of the advertising budget goes for movies these days, transit ads.
I install these on the back of buses in Sydney. There are 60 in Sydney (I do 15) and 120 nationwide(NSW,VIC,WA,SA), They are changed on a monthly basis with 3 seperate packs (360 a month) and out of each 3 packs more often 1 of them is for a movie. They also do smaller side ads as well.

Driven around the streets of capital cities on the back of 120 buses for approx 16hrs a day has to be way better value than on 1 V8 supercar.

Don't say that too loudly Mt Panorama, or all the motorsport sponsors will pull their money and buy buses instead.
