iRace Round 5 Eastern Creek 9 July

During the round iRace will be holding a fundraising raffle to help fellow driver Mark Bell. link

Support Mark Bell
As we mentioned previously, popular Super Hoist Plus Production Racing Cars driver Mark Bell was injured in a testing accident at Queensland Raceway in late June. From all reports Mark's recovery is slowly progressing, but it will no doubt be a long haul. To support Mark and his family, iRace will be holding a fundraising raffle.
Tickets will be available at our Eastern Creek round next Friday (9 July).
Prizes have been arranged by R & A Mowers, operated by the Gurneys (HDT Muscle Division competitors), and with thanks to Parklands, Karcher and Makita.
I wish Mark a full recovery.

Bumper Fields at The Creek
Round 5 for the 2010 Independent Race Series will be held tomorrow at Sydney's fast Eastern Creek circuit, with solid fields across the board. Formula Tasman and LeMans Sports will field it's most diverse grid yet, with a Ferrari F1 car entered, a number of Formula Atlantics and F3 cars, plus a solid offering of Radical prototype cars. Chris Farrell will return, looking to maintain his series lead.

Was a great meeting, great racing and a great bunch of people. Unfortunately Guido in the F1 car was ruled out after qualifying with a gearbox gremlin, but there were plenty of other cars getting amongst it!

Awesome to see a good amount of money raised at the end of the day in the raffle for Mark Bell and family - we wish him a full and speedy recovery!

That would be this one right here

Which to those with a keen eye, is the same car that was trotted out at a Island Historic meeting in the late 90's (IIRC 1997 or 8...) to do some demonstration laps, with a erstwhile gent by the name of Chris Smith behind the wheel.

Cold day, wet track, old tyres, and turbo boost saw the previously immaculate car take on the end of the concrete pit wall, with driver quite lucky to escape unhurt.

From memory a front wheel actually split the carbon fibre tub.

Fast Forward 11-12 years, and in a passing conversation with a well known Melbourne Italian Sports Car technician, I learn that the car actually went back to Marranello for a "Factory Rebuild"...

Interestingly, no mention of that incident in the story.

Back on Topic, a shame it broke down, as it is simply amazing that Guido actually takes the car our and races it.

Hope to see it race in Victoria sometime soon.

That looks like the one. Was great to see Guido come along, he certainly pushes the car and it's great to see it in full flight! Hopefully we can encourage Formula Tasman fields of a similar quality to come out in the future!

So how does an F1 car go with all the noise restrictions we have at non F1 events these days or did they slap a set of mufflers on it??
