Drink How much is a sponsorship worth?

In AA this week, there is an article taken from 10,000ft about what a sponsorship might be worth to a V8Supercar team.

The income stream is broken down as follows:

"Big Team" - 2 cars
Car AreaSponsorship Value
Mirrors $100,000
Rear Bar $350,000
Rear Quarters $550,000
Naming Rights/Sides $3,000,000
Windscreen Strip $1,500,000
Bonnet $1,000,000
Front Bar $550,000
Headlights $250,000
TOTAL $7,300,000

"Little Team" - 1 car
Car AreaSponsorship Value
Mirrors $40,000
Rear Bar $100,000
Rear Quarters $250,000
Naming Rights/Sides $500,000
Windscreen Strip $250,000
Bonnet $350,000
Front Bar $70,000
Headlights $50,000
TOTAL $1,610,000

Sounds like a pluck in some ways...

The 'review' also seems to ignore the alleged $850,000 income from the Racing Entitlement Contract, and indeed the input of capital & operating funds from arguably non-commercial family interests..

But if you look at a team like GRM, estimating their budget suggests a 2 car team operates on far less than these numbers. Income from Fujitsu as primary sponsor was reported to be $1.8m for 2 cars. Sponsorship from Valvoline owning the noses of these 2 cars would likely be in the $800k range for 2 cars. Cummins has reduced in space, and would likely be in the $300k range. So you have a commercial budget of $2.9m to run 2 cars. Topped up with the REC income of $1.7m for 2 cars, this then becomes $4.6m for 2 cars, to fund operating & capital spend for the GRM operation. A long way from AA's $7.3m proclamation

i'm surprised people still read AA...

from memory that is also nothing like what was suggested by Mr Crompton on V8Xtra's broadcast from the Kelly Racing shed either

Hmm,

The AA numbers might be about right in terms of calculated TV exposure value but that doesn't mean that a sponsor is actually going to pay that level of dollars.

I don't get AA anymore so don't know which the article refers to - the calculated value of the exposure or the dollars received.
