Who will be the fastes Cosworth team in 2002??
I personaly think Arrows will have a very good chance of beating Jaguar, The windtunnel will help them do that.
Also Jag are not very far ahead of Arrows with a much stronger engine this year(40-50 BHP). So Like Paul Stoddart already said: "Arrows will beat Jaguar in 2002" Last edited by steve nielsen; 4 Aug 2001 at 00:00. |

Re: Who will be the fastes Cosworth team in 2002??
I think Jag will really step up to the plate next year due to many different reasons . They have fist of drivers to choose plus one that what to jion (JV just for example) also this year was a write off as a rebuild year .
As for Arrow's it would be great for them to step up as well the more teams up there the better . There can only be one winner out of all this THE F1 fans |

Budget for 2000-2001 Arrows-80million Jaguar-170million Let's just say that Jaguar if they get the chasis right, will have the chance of victories and podiums. |

Even with 90 million and 50 BHP less, Arrows is stil closely behind Jag in most races, and in Austria they even beat Jag(Jos 6,Eddie 7).
if budget was the real key BAR would beat Jordan with ease...... Last edited by steve nielsen; 4 Aug 2001 at 06:56. |

I guess you have to ask the question. Will Jaguar who are the Ford works team, allow Arrows to have the same technology, even if it is badged Cosworth? Me thinks not somehow.

Arrows will get the same spec engine as Arrows, and even the same electronics(LC,TC)......

If the deal between Arrows and Ford gives Jaguar access to Arrows' aerodynamic facilities,
I'm afraid Jaguar will keep their advantage. |

I think that, with their budget, Jaguar should beat Arrows for majority of the races in 2002.

But then again, Jaguar will want to start performing next season so I think (as Ralfanator has already said) that they will step up progress for next year. This year has been shaky for them, but their management is settling down now and I think Rahal, Lauda & co. might really start delivering next season.

Despite all of the protestations, I share the view that TGFMC (The Great Ford Motor Company) will not be truly even handed in supplying a Jaguar competitor with engines. To the best of my recollection, they have never had a team in US racing that competed directly with another Cosworth customer. Therefore unless Nicky Lauda is truly prepared to take a lot of heat, I would guess that Jag's motors will always be one or two "small" revisions ahead of Arrow's.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to watch them next season. We don't very often get a chance to see two cars with nearly the same engine run side by side. |

The reason why Cosworth will suply 2 teams is to move up the field because:
- 4 cars, more race kilometers, more test kilometers, so the engines can be developed faster - Lauda also said the competition will help iron out weaknesses in both teams. - He said that Arrows will recieve the same spec engine..... you can't develop and compare if Arrows get a differen't engine, and that's the main reason for Cosworth to suply a 2nd team..... |

I think Jaguar will out perform Arrows. Jaguar have Steve Nichols designing his first complete car for Jaguar since joining them and his track record is fantastic. (15 out of 16 for McLaren one year).
Also the Jaguar drivers contacts are up at the end of 2002 so I think you will see a better performance from them. |

Jaguar will be much stronger next year. This year they have been working with alot of new people, and it has taken them awhile to get their act together. They are already showing signs of improvement, and they are only going to get better.
Best of luck to Arrows, but I just cant see them competing with the works Ford team. The Cossie engine will help, but F1 is more than just a drag race. |

Another point; Isnt Jaguar almost done building their own wind tunnel?
The last I heard they were using one in California. Being that far away has to hurt effeciency. When their tunnel in England comes online, they should be able to make aero improvments faster. |

Arrows bought the DERA windtunnel earlier this year, it's one of the most advanced windtunnels in Europe(was used to test missiles).....

Simply put, there is no way in the world Jaguar would let Arrows beat them. The engine, as someone previously mentioned I believe, would always be one or two revolutions behind the latest in the back of the Jaguar.
Plus, wouldn't it look pathetic if the factory Jaguar was beaten by a customer Arrows-Cosworth??? Heads would roll even faster than before if that was to happen. Besides, apart from lack of points, Jaguar have become increasingly competitive this year. I doubt they will be winning next year, but I think a top 4 sport in the WCC isn't out of the question, considering BAR and Jordan are going nowhere, while Sauber has exceeded even their wildest expectations, and could they continue the trend next season anyway?? 50/50 on that one. As for Arrows, the whole combination of chassis/engine would have to mould well, plus Jos would have to continue to drive as well as he has lately. But with the advances made every winter, I doubt Arrows will be going too far. So I voted no. |
