I'll be on the super Nat grid again matey.

I've got to the bottom (I think) of all the "new car" issues with the ZR at mallory, so fingers crossed i'll be a little more competative next time out.... well thats the plan anyway!

Hi Si

Glad to hear you got your car sorted and it will be good to be back at it and hopefully we can get up near the front this time...

Supercharger is planned to start the fitting this weekend so i can have a few more HP...

Shirley put up on Facebook this morning that 11 Retro cars have entered so far. I think that is a pretty impressive turnout.

We moan a lot on here about things that don't work so would like to give a positive shout out to Shirley and how she is bringing her vision for Retro to life. She has worked with us since we bought the Escort back in September. Always quick to respond to question she goes out of her way to make things seamless and smooth.

She consulted the drivers about the calendar this year and at Lydden at the test (!) arranged a hospitality area for our team members (cold day) and had a meeting about the season and took our input on board. She has been very diligent in the presentation of the series and has more plans to improve that before Mallory in June.

A pleasure to work with.

Also, I had no intention of racing in Scotland - not easy flights from America! - but Shirley pointed out that Ian Biagi drives south for events at my 'home' track of Lydden Hill and we should try and do the same for him. It was a great way to not only reward Ian but as an organizers to explain how to strengthen the series. After all, I remember with joy Ray Morgan at Lydden but hardly anywhere else. That has changed with Retro.

Now to get some more cars out and maybe even some Europeans over to Lydden. Maybe the old days are coming back after all!

Must Agree with Mark about Retro Rallycross they are doing a great job in promoting the sport and getting the old classic out there....

Has anyone seen an entry list for Knockhill yet??

I think the organisers are playing "lets keep it a secret and hide the entry list again"

On my final flight home from Knockhill. I used to moan about to driving back from Croft to Essex!

This was my first visit to Knockhill and have to say I wish we raced there more. The track - despite the weather - is really great to drive. While the main straight certainly took all the puff out of my little 1600cc the drop on the first corner, especially in the wet, was awesome and then throwing it through the loose sections were a great challenge.

Our final was red flagged after Marc Griffin put the "sister" Haynes of Maidstone Fiesta on its roof! The conditions were atrocious. I had made a good start but once on the loose the Escort was sideways no matter what I did and the little Mini took its chance. I then had Ray Morgan fish tailing that power all over the road in front of me and kinky filled my screen in. I knew it was bad when I filled my own screen in a few hundred yards later.........so wasn't too surprised when they cancelled the meeting after the red flag.

This was also my first Retro Rallycross event and I am so glad to be part of the series. Like the old days with no awnings to hide in, just ground sheets and umbrellas and conversation among us all. Shirley is an amazing host and my wife was most appreciative of having lunch laid on in the garages. I have said it before but with her leadership this series will only grow - 11 cars in Scotland is pretty impressive.

I also think LHMC did a good job running the event. Despite the weather, the usual shenanigans getting drivers to the grid, a few rolls and we were still done by 4pm.

I can't make Mallory but can't wait to be out again at Lydden Hill perhaps with some sunshine? It was also fun to have lunch with Andy Scott. We spent a lot of time together waiting for GRC tracks to be built last year and good to catch up on the gossip from both sides of the pond, IMG and GRC.

Ooh

Well done Mal Boyd

what happened to Simpson??

Me i had a treble day as i tested the car on our industrial estate stages on the Saturday and it ran great.

Woke up and tried to start it on the Sunday morning and the best i could get was 2 cylinders to fire so managed 2 laps in practice and that was the end of my day

Craig Lomax beat Russ Simpson. Doesn't Lomax run an 8v car? Hmm...

Well I had a great fun weekend, honestly loved every minute of it.

The weather made it some what challanging and i'm having to re-learn how to get a powerful FWD car off the line, uphill in the wet (Wheel spin city in almost every gear!)

But, I think i'm now starting to get to grips with the little MG and it was definatelly a big step forward from the last outing at mallory.

Knockhill was definatelly a "podium that got away" which was a little disappointing after the turbo hose blew off in the final during the second lap and had massive vibration from a failing drive shaft, but it didn't stop me smiling from the racing.

Weblink to some video's from the onboard camera here
http://www.youtube.com/user/hortonracing22

I'm already looking forward (and entered) for the next round at mallory. Hopefully we can take another step forward and start to chase for a podium with a larger grid of cars.

See you all in a few weeks time in the midlands

Si
