Hello dear friends and fans of the 24 Hours of Le Mans,
During this summer, after an e-mail from Armand de la ROCHEFOUCAULD (nephew of Sosthène, who drove a BUGATTI in 1923), a (dream ?) team of MOTORLEGEND Forum open several investigations about this race and his results. We have find that several cars and crews are wrong... Today we have realise an article (sorry in french for instance) to re-establish the truth. You can find all the story and research here : http://forums.motorl...ead.php?t=46405 And a summary here : http://www.les24heur...-et-corrections or here : http://www.24h-en-pi...rticle_044.html Thanks if you have more informations to complete this great discovery and good reading. |

I'm still translating bits of this now but I love it when new information comes about.
I've never really understood the lack of interest about the first ever race - there's so little literature out there about it in comparison to other races, so every piece of information is like gold dust. |

Thank you so much for the translation.
Although there were many parts of the '23 race that remain the same today, it's important to remember that the first race wasn't what we'd recognise as a race now. The cars were basically testing their road reliability over the course of a 24 hour period on a 10 mile dirt track, with the winner to be decided in 1925 after a three-year period. I wonder what the entrants of the first ever race would make of what it is today. |
