BTRDA Rallycross Blyton March 9

Well done to the organisers for responding to requests from competitors regarding an on going entry list, here is the link to the opening round of the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship which takes place at Blyton on March 9th

http://clubmansrallycross.weebly.com...march-9th.html

These are basically the entries for the postponed opening round so hopefully with a little more time available to get cars ready, the entry list will increase whereby I'll keep it updated and advise.

It would be nice to get the Rally Car class bolstered in particular so hopefully, that will be of interest to rally drivers thinking of having a go at rallycross (but don't worry, set off at intervals so no contact!)

A few rally drivers continuing to try their hand at rallycross given the entry list for next weekend's BTRDA opening round at Blyton. The organisers are still keen to hear from prospective entrants at forthcoming rounds in the Rally Car class, it would be good to get a few out. They start at intervals, no contact etc, a good opportunity for a shakedown or a test for a potential buyer etc.

Still a few late entries to go onto the following list if anyone else fancies a go!

My first time at Blyton, so I can't make any comparison to the old layout. After looking at the sketch of the track I had the impression it would be quite slow, but it covered a bigger area than I was expecting and there were two decent straights for the cars to get some speed on. Be interested to see what the drivers thought of it.

The day was a bit slow to get going, but hopefully they'll have the teething problems ironed out for the next round. Overall a good mix of cars, good racing and sunshine for the whole day: and all for free!

The full results for the day can be seen here:

Firstly, a massive thanks to the MDA headed by Rod Stanniland, Bill Skermer of the BTRDA, CofC Tony Richardson and John Rook for their unstinting efforts in getting this meeting and the championship up and running.

As with anything new, there are bound to be teething problems and the organisers are well aware of what needs addressing and will act accordingly I'm sure.

They did come in for a bit of flack regarding a couple of issues and the odd temper flared from a competitors angle, but what we have to realise as far as rallycross is concerned (and bear in mind I work in and for professional disciplines of motorsport and various championships), it HAS to move forward.

No longer can competitors dictate to organisers what they want or 'how it used to be'... The finals (again, something new) CLEARLY STATED that time penalties would be incurred for exceeding track limits (and again, remember the new circuit regulations which came into force from the MSA this year regarding 'four wheels off') so they were well within their rights to enforce this stipulation and I for one am pleased they did.

Whilst the impromptu drivers meeting saw some severe criticism, at least one or two have wholeheartedly apologised to the organisers which, whilst it shouldn't have happened in the first place, took a lot of balls so well done Brian Jukes for doing that.

As for the racing, it was good and mostly clean, the only damage I sustained being accidental damage whilst dicing closely. The heats were run well and it all flowed excellently I thought, plenty of time in the car and very enjoyable.

The track was technical and twisty in the 'infield' and a couple of minor improvements could be made (like a little straighter run up to the jump and a bit wider in a couple of places) but it was fast enough for my little 206!

Performance wise, I surprised myself! We have spent a lot of time over the past couple of months sorting the car but it's still a rally car complete with passenger seat, tripometer, hand held extinquishers and OK/SOS boards etc.

For a relatively standard 1600cc Cup car which is only comparable with a sorted Hot Hatch, then I reckoned I'd get smoked in SuperModified but to be not far behind the likes of Tapscott and Dixon in my heats, and leading the last one for 3.75 laps before Gary Cook edged past, the 'B' Final was way beyond my expectations.

Sadly, when trying to fend off Gary on the long straight, I went from fifth to fourth instead of sixth which did the engine no favours and that was game over for me for the day.

Excellent all round, see you at Pembrey!

Good post Larry and glad to hear the meeting was a success. Agree 100% with what you are saying about rallycross moving on etc. Disappointing to hear about the organisers getting some flak, they've done a sterling job to get this up running. I assume these guys are doing it in their spare time as well so well done to all of them for making the effort. Everybody should get behind them and support this grass roots level of the sport, that includes you LHMC!

Having previously only done a test day on the old blyton track and failing to get past the first practice session at a rallycross meeting in 2008 this was My first full Rallycross meeting, i have never driven any other rallycross tracks so don't have anything to compare but I for one enjoyed the track in the little classic mini !! Being used to driving around a dirt oval in Autograss it seemed to me like a formula one track ! Personally I found the tight turn at the end of the loose a bit of a challenge but liked the next turn straight into the jump, which perhaps suited the mini, I was one of the guilty ones with all four wheels off in my first heat, when I over shot the corner at the end of the long straight leading from the jump, to be honest I was glad that there wasn't a barrier there, I accepted the penalty and didn't do it again! Great to see Rallycross back at Blyton and a big well done to all those involved in making it happen. I also found everyone to be really helpful and friendly and subject to work commitments etc I am planning on doing as many of the clubman meetings as possible this year.

Had a great day marshalling for this event. Plenty of close racing and perfect weather.

I had some retro rallycross stickers displayed on a sign outside the cafe. Unfortunately I didn't get chance to set up shop at lunchtime so if anyone was interested in buying any of them please contact me on here and I'll sort you out.

I'm also in the process of designing some Blyton Rallycross stickers

Looking forward to Novembers event already
