Intermediate Tyres
I'm not quite up to scratch as to why there is no intermediate tyre used in the V8 category at the moment, does anyone know why this is so?

It's probably just to simplify the whole issue. At the moment, Bridgestone have to use double-b trailer set up to transport all of the slicks and the wets around the countryside. If AVESCO (or whoever makes the rules these days) told them that they must supply intermediates also, then there would be half as many trucks again, and the associated costs would once again go up.
Also things like no hand grooved slicks would be in the name of parity and in cost cutting (remember the teams can't even burn the marbles and build up off the tyres with heat guns these days either). At the end of the day, the situation is the same for everybody. |

yeh i reckon its a way to keep costs down for both competitors and whoever has the control tyre contract..certainly makes it interesting though.

A good way to keep costs down. Are teams still able to take a slick tyre and cut there own light grooves in the tyres so you would have an intermediate. This cut slick idea, i believe won Perkins/Ingall the Sandown 500 in 1998.
