WORST Formula 1 track EVER!

What is officaly the worst ever track the Formula 1 circus has visted since 1950?

Nivelles?
Silverstone?
or any other track?

Your decision what is the worst ever track F! has ever visited

It could be:

Safety
Facilities
Track Layout
Boringness

Which track deserves this shameful honour?

Nivelles and the Hungaroring take the cake for boring.

Some labelled Nivelles simply as a 'bland autodrome near Brussels, used twice, then quietly forgotten.' However, others have been more, let's say forceful, in their opinion. We don't even need to discuss the Hungaroring. We knows how boring it is!

Other tracks in the running would have to be the Aida course in Japan. Jarama wasn't the most awe-inspiring course created.

Most dangerous track would have to be Mont Tremblant/Ste Jovite in Canada. It was 'deemed dangerous by even the lax standards of the time (early 1970s)'.

I believe Nivelles was flattened (although I don't why I said that ) towards the end of the 70's its now just an industrial estate I think, can anyone shed some light on that please?

The Hungaroring, by far, is the crappest race of the season.

Nivelles was the most boring circuit when built, result bankruptcy. The worst actually used for a WCF1 race must be the Zeltweig airfield used in 1964. The worst race circuit,I had the misfortune to visit must be Jurby in Isle of Man. No spectator facilities whatsoever, but you can watch from the paddock, which had a burger van, portaloo and an old double decker bus which served as race control!

Hungaroring is the worst in the modern day era. it seems that every race they have there it seems to get progressively more and more boring!!!

apart from that i think it is gonna be barcelona as well, i fell asleep during that race - it was sooo boring!!!

Hungaroring by a long, long way. How Bernie can threaten to get rid of Silverstone and Spa without even mentioning Hungary is beyond belief.

for boringness, hungaroring is by far at the top, but monaco must get a mention for awfully boring races, especially with traction control on cars meaning that they never crash!

if it wasnt for the banked part indianapolis would be dire.

zolder would have to get an un-safety award, or maybe just bad luck award.

this berlin 1959 layout is either incredibly dull or great, i just cant tell.

That Berlin track is the Avus track I mentioned earlier.

It was run either side of a motorway with incredibly steep banking at one end.

I think the race was run in two parts, race one and race two and the aggregates added together to give an overall winner.

Le Mans Bugatti circuit
So bad the drivers hated it back then. Never used again after 1967 race. The track utlised the Le Mans main straight, than cut back with a mickey mouse infield section.

Hungaroring
No explanation is required. It's just ****.

Barcelona
Likewise...

Nivelles
So bad the driver prefered Zolder of all places

Albert Park
The track is decent, the safety is good, the facilites and layout also. I just want the Adelaide GP back

QLD Raceway
Thankfully NEVER going to be used for F1. Think of a paperclip shape, with no elevation changes, 100 m runoff areas and, to top it off, it's in the middle of nowhere. Rubbish indeed.

Las Vegas –– imagine holding a F1 race in the parking lot of your local shopping mall, and you've got a pretty good idea of the layout and surroundings.

At least in Vegas spectators could see a good portion of the action. The worst track for spectators I've ever witnessed was the Detroit street course, late 80's to early 90's.

It soured me on street courses altogether, although I would love to see Montreal.

Hey Neil, what did you think of Dallas, before, of course, the heat broke the asphalt up and Nige nearly collapsed pushing his car.

I never attended a race in Dallas, and have vague memories of watching the event, but that was during a time when the US Grand Prix moved every year or two to some hastily put together street course, (or parking lot) thinking they could recreate Monaco or Long Beach.

I think this is what killed F1 in the US. It amazes me that the FIA would not approve tracks like Road America or Watkins Glen for lack of facilities and safety measures like runoff areas, yet they put their cars into concrete tubes lined with catch fencing with hideous facilities.

I also believe that street courses with no margin for error has hurt the sport in that it discourages a certain kind of driving style that made guys like G. Villeneuve and Mansell fun to watch.

Actually, that was at a time when the US was trying to stage multiple grand prixs, never very successfully.

I agree completely on your assessment of street courses. It's hard to be on the ragged edge when you're driving on a two lane street with three foot concrete barriers on either side.

???????

Forgetting something buddy?

I have to say Las Vegas, feh.

I never saw Detrioit in person, but it looked okay on the tube.

I remember Nivelles as even generating boring photos. Avus would have been very cool to see.

Perhaps it was just the cars of the era, but the La Vegas races featured a fair amount of overtaking and produced pretty exciting races. Sure, the location was a joke, and the Americans ignored it but in terms of actual layout, and the ability to see all the action, I would regard Detroit as far worse.

But I think the Hungaroring is an abomination, as was Estoril after they put in that ridiculous chicane. Jerez doesn't float my boat much either.
