2001 Chance Of A Lifetime Won At Wakefield Park
After 5 days of competition, the 2001 Chance Of A Lifetime competition was won on Sunday by Grant Johnston - however, his win was by the smallest of margins - 42/10,000th's of a second...
The 30 finalists competed on Sunday driving 6 Daewoo Cup Lanos' - two groups of 15 with 3 cars to each group ensured that all competitors drove each car once. Their lap times, over two flying laps, were then averaged with the wloest session being dropped. From this final 30, 14 drivers remained for the run off in the afternoon. Again, each driver drove the four cars in the final once over four seperate heats of two flying laps. Once again, their slowest session average time was dropped and then the remaining averages from each session were averaged out. The final two runs of the day were to turn the competition completely upside down as Johnston managed to improve his overall average to take him to equal first place with an average time of 1:21.42 with Moreley. This left the top five placings as:
The times for Johnsotn and Morely had to be taken back to their 10,000th component with Johnston being the eventual winner of a V8 Supercar Konica Series Drive for 2002 with a time of 1:21.4257, Moreley winning a 2002 MG Series Drive with a time of 1:21.4309 and D'ercole a 2002 Daewoo Cup Lanos Series Drive with a time of 1:21.45. Congratulations to all who competed in the 2001 Chance Of A Lifetime Competition. |

Hmmm...there you go, well done Grant!
Is there any chance of getting the full results from anywhere, as a few of the locals were going down for that... |

I have placed all the raw times on the RaceTime site - it is best to go via the main page as I effectively set up a new meeting every day and two on Sunday (because of the way each driver got to run in five different cars).
If you have any problems - let me know. www.chanceofalifeteime.com.au will also be posting overall placings in the next day or so I believe. |

Chance of a lifetime
Hey guys,
I was talking to someone recently and they mentioned this competition that was around a few years back called the chance of a lifetime. It sounded interesting and I tried to find out more info on it but couldn't find anything at all. I was just wondering if anyone knew about this and how it was run, like what cars, prizes, entry fees etc.? Thanks |

From memory Australia had its own version. I think Dave Russell ended up a winner of it.
you paid a large amount of cash to enter and then you went through a series of tests with the winning walking away with a year in certain series of racing |

It was run by MoPro Australia and Paul Pickett - who may or may not be still in jail???
Lets just say, they were on the long list of rougues, who seem to be drawn to Motorsport. http://www.piarc.com.au/?helix=show&id=4253 |

It ran for a few years, Grant Johnson won it once as well.
MoPro at one time or another ran Daewoo, MG & Lotus one make series titles, and prizes for drives in those series were on offer as well as a V8 Development Series drive the Daewoo's were actually a good entry level idea for a series, and didn't get the credit it probably deserved at the time. |

It was won by Rick Bates & Peter Gazzard. After the race, Gazzard bought Bates' share of the car. |
