James Thompson to go rallying
Thanks to our friends in the Touring Car forum
" James Thompson, works Vauxhall BTCC driver, has just reached an agreement with Peugeot Sport UK to drive the ex. Justin Dale championship winning Peugeot 106 Super GTi in the 2002 British Rally Championship. " 27 year old Thompson intends to compete in all rounds of this years British Rally Championship other than the Jim Clark Rally, which clashes with the Croft round of the BTCC. " As the authorities debate rally safety, is it the best time to let a touring car driver loose? It will be interesting to see & I hope that James does well. But who from other motorsports would you like to see rallying?? |

Isn't it typical that when those namby-pamby circuit racers get loose on the stages there is such a fanfare? Could you see Vauxhall or Peugeot giving Kenny McInstry or Martin Rowe such a deal. I say PAHHH!

Ahh but Richard Burns did get a drive in the Porche Super Cup Race supporting the British Grand Prix two years ago! Maybe you should call him a namby pamby mud racer?

I'd like to see more drivers able to cross-over to other m/s disciplines (contracts, schedules permitting); it's one of the things that makes the Race of Champions interesting.

James Thompson won his class on his first ever competitive rally yesterday, also finishing the Robin Hood Stages rally 16th overall in his Peugeot 106.
He was definitely hustling the car around the stages I saw & he could be one to watch in this year's BRC |
