Aussie F1 Fans - Get Shafted by Channel Nine
In a letter printed in this weeks Auto Action an accordingly irate Aussie fan has stated that Channel 9 will not be televising the Malaysian GP live or (and get ready to go spare) even bother televising Brazil, Canada or the US races at all.
Has anyone else heard this rumour and if it is true what can we do to prevent this ? I've emailed the writer of the letter to try and get more info. So I'll post back here any news I get. Be angry, I am. Cheers, Buck. |

Two years ago, I contacted Channel 9 and after some gentle persuasion, they changed their mind and broadcast Malaysia live here in QLD because the WDC depended on the outcome of that race. However, because it clashed with teh news on the southern states, the race was broadcast delayed there. (they were on daylight saving and we weren't). So why don't you ring up channel 9 and talk to the station manager? I did then, and it worked for us.

I don't think that the letter is true, over at www.f1fansvschannel9.com there is no mention of this, and i find it hard to believe they won't be shown at all, and after all, Brazil, Canada and the US are the only GP's (and Japan) we get live in the first place.

I have also just noticed in the TV program that Channel 9 only have 2 hours of GP coverage on the Saturday.
Looks like we won't be seeing the support races from the V8s or PROCAR but you can bet your left nut they'll show the dam celebrity race. Oh, the reason for only 2 hours of coverage on Saturday ? At 3:30 they have to urgently cross to a docco on Ali so more people will want to see the Will Smith Oscar vehicle. Channel 9 - you are a joke. Stop insulting F1 fans and give it to Channel 10. |

well my guide says 3 hours buckshot , an improvement at least but still appallling considering the scale of the event, go to the website above on there it says the addresses to send your hate mail to ..i believe all australian fans should do this and write and complain about their total lack of professionality in covering the event.
seems very strange to me that they have paid a heck of a lot of money for the f1 rights but yet the refuse to capatilize on the whole thing !!!!! I would think that they will show the three events mention >>>WELL THEY BLOODY BETTER !!!!!!! , its just shocking but im sure someone will come along and say .."ohh but what about 20 years ago , we didnt get any coverage of F1 at all" well ****** to that i say , look at what year it is and the technology available and the huge fan base the sport has , pull ya head out of the sand channel nine and play the game they way it should be played , if not pass the bloody ball to someone who is a proven goal kicker. CHANNEL EDDIE SUX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Yes Marcus, when we have Jonesy already on the network and, like him or hate him, he's a hell of alot better informed of F1 than Dazza or Eddie, why they pick Eddie the idiot to commentate on something like our GP leaves me seething.
Must really roast AJ and DE as well. Maybe they figure the race is in Melb so we need a Melb personality. If this is the case, I vote for Bert Newton, he knows at least as much as EMc and would have the decency and professional skills to admit that and leave the talking to the informed. I haven't looked into it but I am sure the three mentioned will be televised as well. Wouldn't Bernie have that written into their agreement? That they have to show each race? Obviously when they do is up to 9 but i'd be suprised if this isn't the case. anyway, to follow Marcus's example EDDIE SUCKS THE BIGGEST ONES !! Oh MY God, I have just had a vision They will read all our concerned, well mannered, and extremely friendly mail requesting we get rid of Eddie and replace him next year with Darrell Somers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Australian receiving poor quality coverge of F1 is no longer news by my ears. It's been happening for so long now that I've frankly just given up and am waiting for Channel 10 to finally pick up the TV rights, although considering the sum of money they paid for the AFL, maybe that won't happen.
How about it Channel 7? And if they choose not to broadcast the Brazilian, Canadian and US races, I will personally burn down the entire studio....... |

I believe the Duke of Edinburgh is quite a fan of F1, so why don't you write a stiff letter to:
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Sovereign of Australia c/o Buckingham Palace London As the ultimate ruler of your country, she may well be able to apply pressure in the right places! |

Has anyone noticed that all of the main Channel 9 personalities have a very high punchability factor? Go through them: McGuire, Munro, Martin, Eastlake, Sutcliffe.
Also, 9's lead-up publicity has been attrocious. As of Thursday afternoon, they had shown two stories about the Grand Prix. An short interview with Webber on ACA, and a 10 second mention of 2-week old news (that Ferrari were going to use the old car) with months old footage. 7 and 10 have both had good, in-depth coverage. You wouldn't think it was a 9 covered event, with the first Aussie participating for 8 years. NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Ken Sutcliffe was great , he had knowledge and a liking for the sport , out of all of them I would much rather see the male model from Mudgee

You guy's are all to hard on poor little Ed. He has a tough job you now, being K.P's right hand man is a full time job. You realise how many times you have to say "yes Kerry, no Kerry, how high Kerry?, I'll get right on to-it Kerry, I'll take care of it Kerry ,etc, etc, etc. He's "locked in Eddie"

Does anybody have a transcript of big Daryl calling the V8 race today? I just want to send him a copy so he can see how big a goose he is.

I don't know what all this angst is going to achieve. You guys are all nuts, whingeing like Pommes about some lousy support races, (which we got anyway). May I suggest you guys get wise, use some politeness, and telephone channel nine directly rather than whinge here, and ask them nicely to televise quals for the rest of the year. Quite honestly, I don't give a $hit about support races, I don't care if they use Eddie McGuire on all the race programs - who gives a $hit?? Just ask them nicely to televise quals, and to stop the tape on the delayed telecasts when the ads are shown. Please try to focus on the donut - not the hole.

I think it is more fun to sit back and yell at them Valve.
Take Big Dazza Eastlake. The guy is supposed to be a HUGE fan. Yet he called Radasich as Johnson in the V8's, even with the shot of the car showing the number 18. The said that "Murphy was holding out Lowndes" a full lap after he called Lowndes pass Murphy. I get paid a lot less and can't aford to make these sort of mistakes. It ain't bloody rocket science. |

What plant are you on? Politeness, donut's ,hole's, I think you have missed your bus! This site is form us to voice our thoughts on what we like and don't like. If you like what 9 is put on the box , thats fine, but some of us can see that the F1 TV is getting worse every year and ED is not making it any more watchable I'm afraid. Ringing Ch 9 would be a waste of money. As for not giving a **** about support races, where do you think all the stars of today started out from, those very support races, which have some of the best racing (cars actually overtaking) you will see. Some of us like to watch the supports. Have you been to a state race meeting lately, great racing for a great price.

I don't really have a problem with Dazza, sure he makes some mistakes and rambles on abit (how many times do we have to hear from him & AJ about how professional the V8s are and how the F1 mechanics watch) but he is enthusiastic. Nick Harris has been a great addition and Jackie Stewart is always great on the channel 9 telecast, but bring back Kenny Sucliffe, at least he had some interest and knowledge of F1.

Well, if you guys want to come here and whinge like a bunch of Pommes, go right ahead. You just don't have the guts to ring (OH this is going to cost us heaps to make a 20 cent phone call to Channel 9 the television station), and speak to the sports manager politely about the problem. All you want to do is gutsache here and expect me to feel sorry for you? I'd rather feel sorry for the Pommes who whinge - at least they have an excuse.
As for poor old Darryl miscalling the race, I remember Murray making heaps, calling blue cars ferrari and so on. Who gives a $hit? These are the big issues: 1. We want to watch quals direct for every F1 race. 2. We want the TV station to stop the tape during the delayed telecast so that we don't miss any of the race. And by the way, I couldn't give a damn about support races if I can achieve the above two items. I rang them last year, and I achieved direct telecast of the Malaysian GP for Queensland. So what are you going to do? Sit by your PC and whinge? Last edited by Valve Bounce; 2 Mar 2002 at 11:43. |

So is it too much trouble to look up the telephone book, and ring up the station, ask to speak to the sports manager, and just say you want to ask them to give us direct telecasts for quals, please? You don't have to say it's a complaint - just talk to them sensibly. It worked for me last year. People respond a helluva lot better if you tell them nicely that we want to watch something , rather than tell them "I HAVE A COMPLAINT TO MAKE".
