How long till Toyota Challenges
Seeing how Toyota seems to be on pace with the midfield cars. How long do you guys think it will take for them to be beating the top teams?

It's amazing how well they're doing already, in the practice sessions. Just like in CART, Toyota will rise to the top of F1.
A company with the huge resources and reputation of Toyota does not go into racing unless they plan to win. Sure they're saying that "just qualifying" would be a success at this point, but they have a lot more than that in mind. I'll give them a year for development, then they'll be running with the Ferrari, Williams, McLaren pack. Of course, I also thought that BAR Honda would be a contender by now.... |

I admit that I've been suprised by their quick times relative to the field. But they were still 3-4sec. off of last years pole.
I dont think they will be able to challenge the top 3 until at least the 2004 season. By then they will also be dealing with Renault. |

Yeah, it was a surprise.
But still, the qualifying is a completely different story. Go Webber ! |

Next season at the earliest they may challenge for regular points maybe the odd podium. 2004 maybe the odd win? You can never tell in this game!

yeah i mean, its a long road and many people think that success comes through a season - williams had a 4 year drought!!! 3 seasons of relative obscurity and constant development. toyota will either make it or quit no quibbles. as Davyboy said, toyota play to win. theyre not gonna waste mone on a lost cause.

You did say "challenge"
I think they already did.
Unless you don't consider McLaren one of the top teams. Last edited by Valve Bounce; 1 Mar 2002 at 19:52. |
