Thank You Felipe
I don't post on the F1 forum very often, but I thought I ought to thank Felipe Massa for providing the one moment worth watching in this afternoon's Grand Prix. (And the TV director missed it - what a surprise!).
What a bore. I'm amazed I only fell asleep for 10 minutes of the race. The pinnacle of motor sport? |

I must admit, I'm asking myself why F1 is so hyped... The action certainly isn't the best... With everything automated, I'm thinking a half decent racer could be competitive in the right car...
I suppose it's the money and glamour, but really, if we all stopped watching that would go away. My interest in F1 is the technology, and the engineering involved in creating a competitive car. However, as there is such a discrepency between the 'have' and 'have not' teams, you can pretty much guarantee who will come out on top... Personally, I'd be in favour of a revenue distribution system where each teams gets an equal foot, but that would never happen, because the same people that run the sport are the ones that benefit from the current system. |

Welcome back, Ayesedasi, we DO miss you.
I will admit that until today, i wasn't impressed by Massa, but that was a fine move and the lad did his cause for getting the #2 seat at ferrari in 2003 a lot of good today. |

Felipe was also giving heidfeld a bit of hassle in the opening 15 laps or so, its just that he couldn't get past.
Great move into Rivazza though!! |

Nice move wasnt it. He put a wheel on the grass - exciting stuff but managed to make it stick. He needs to keep it up though. Still a way to go before he can reightfully be the front runner for the Ferrari drive.

Phillipe was my pick in the fantasy F1 to replace Kimi from last year. (I'm still suing Kimi for breach of contract ) I was extra glad 'cause it gave me more points. |

Today race was a mere strategical race, but I remark that Rubinho finally finished a race after many abandons and the solely Minardi of Mark Webber could finish the race when many of his rivals (Arrows, Jordan, Jaguar) didn't.
Shame that JV finished 7th and without points. |

Ah! Very good the sorpasso of Felipe over Trulli!
(Firstly I though it was Heidfeld, but not.) |

I had my doubts about Massa at first, after his 'offs' in pre-season testing, but I'm glad he's proved me wrong. Now he's had a few races he's settled down and is now proving he has speed and can pass. A rare thing in F1 these days!
The thing I want to know is, how come Peter Sauber is getting hold of these fast drivers? i.e. Heidfeld, Raikonnen, Massa, etc, when the team is effectively a mid-field team? (I mean the team no disrepect, the front runners are just so strong) I know Massa has Ferrari connections and Sauber have Ferrari engines, but what about the others? |

According to a magazine interview with Peter Sauber, he wanted to get Button for 2001 (who was unavailable). Button's management told Sauber about someone else who was just as good - Kimi Raikkonen. Sauber gave him a test and the rest is history.

I did think that was a super move -- a Massa-full move, if you like. It's the sort of move I get to make at Imola if I set the other drivers' skill level at 85%...which means it was pretty phenomenal that he managed to pull it off.
I find it very exciting -- despite the no-pass character of today's race -- that there is such a wealth of talent coming on; I mean, Jenson is now one of the *older* new boys. I hope Alonso gets a race seat again soon, and that Heidfeld will get a chance to shine. Raikkonen is making good use of his seat at McLaren. And of course one is very happy for Webber, who is doing himself a great deal of good at Minardi, I think. All in all, a good crop. But Massa took the laurels today, with Jenson holding up his end well. |

i think peter sauber labelling massa as "even quicker than kimi" put the pressure on felipe a little bit and he (massa) thought that he had to go out there and prove it straight away! now that he's settled down abit he's improving, although not ready for ferrari yet though!
