Possible Additions to the BTCC for 2003
Possible additions for 2003 so far -
Autosport says that Alfa (nordauto) could run factory teams in both production and better still, Touring. Any more??? Also do you think that this years cars will be brought by more indy teams? (e.g. team halfords, barwell, team Atomic Kitten) oh, and where did that lexus IS200 go?? |

yes, i heard something about that, same as the ex JSM 147's
but the 147's are just taking an eternity to be re-developed with insufficient funding |

oh, i forgot to add - i would now like to see the 147's and possibly another hatchback competing in the touring class - it could be interesting and also make the hondas not look so odd

You are aware that the Alfa 147 has already race in BTC-Touring all of last year, and will return later this year?

I think that the BTCC should specify a certain type of car for touring teams to use (hatchbacks, coupes, 4-door sedans, etc.) instead of allowing anything to race. The Hondas do look very odd out there!

I think we could see the Alfa`s next year and also Renault.
Some indy teams could run this years works cars if they have enough budget but at £90,000 the Astra is a bit steep. As to which shape, and i know some will dissagree, IMHO i would say stick with a 4 door saloon format as this bares more relevance to the "Man in the street" and so pulls in more fans, therefore no hatchbacks or coupes. |

The Honda's are looking very good, something different, not going with the trend, I like that very much.

I think the suggestion of a sedan only series is so that the series can present an additional unifying feature for all cars. In other words, you have many brands, but they all share one major feature--they're all sedans!
I think this is nice for a top level (premiere) touring car series. You can always have another series for coupes--GT racing(??) like DTM. I think an all encompasing series where hatchbacks, coupes and sedans are nice for a JUNIOR/low level touring car series, not premiere like the BTCC. |

Yeah, but if you get rid of all the non-saloons, there would be very few cars left in the series!

Maybe Coupes are the wayt to go, with the Astra Coupe Looking way better than anyother style of Astra, and being the quickest, It may also attract manufacturers as they can show their star models.
But Saloons do have more resembalence to the man on the street. Maybe in a couple of years the BTCC can bring back rules such as the 4.2metre rule, and add rules like saloons only, but the series needs ot get stronger firstly. |

I don't think there is any sense in stipulating one type of vehicle ie Coupes only.
Remeber Variety is the spice of life and variety of vehicle types is what makes the new stlye BTCC for me. |
