Track discussions, anyone?
Okay, this is only slightly off-topic for the F1 forum... F1 _does_ have the most influence of any series over how race tracks are designed and modified (or butchered, as the case may be). I know we've had a couple good threads in various forums, and I'm wondering if there's significant support to perhaps start a forum dedicated to discussions about racing venues. Talk about tracks long dead, new tracks, street circuits, dream tracks...
Just wondering... |

I completely agree with this!
The last few days we've been in the track-mood and we need it. You should be the official track re-namer of Ten tenths! |

We have a huge problem in nz, we have already lost 2 orsome tracks and might loss 2 more just because people build houses next to the then complane about the noise. We only have 6 tracks. Both of the tracks now have to get approval before running race and test days about 6 months prior. It sucks.

Happy birthday Lee |

Thanx Raven!
Heh, and I thought I was the only one who wasted my own time designing tracks. Last edited by Lee Janotta; 1 Aug 2002 at 00:33. |

Anyone who has some tracks they want to show off should pop them on my thread in The Gravel Trap. I'd love to have a sticky at some of them. The more the merrier!
Also, feel free to talk about any track you want on the "My Tracks" thread. I don't mind - it would be very interesting. Last edited by mac; 2 Aug 2002 at 01:20. |

I remember that advert, it ran on the back of race programs in the uk in 2001. The track would have been really fast, and no run off, in many ways it looked to be inspired by Spa and the old Rouen-Le-Essarts circuit.

Yes, Monster, that was unnecesary... and do you remember the tyre chicanes at Montmeló and Spa?
Now that was pitiful... |

Yeah, happy Birthday Lee!

I found the article
Schumacher's track: He wants a track easy on passing, with corners like Eau Rouge or Becketts, a banked corner and a wide track. His track resembles Sepang. 4-5 km. Hakkinen's track: He likes corners like the Estoril Parabolica, Eau Rouge and La Source and the banked corner of Indy. He insists in quick-drying asphalt. His track resembles Montmeló in a way. Not really long. Villeneuve's track: Wild, wild, wild. the first part is like Suzuka. It has a lot of fast S bends along with banked and counterbanked corner with huge elevation changes, like Laguna Seca's corkscrew. Very long track. They didn't really resemble Hockenheim. They went for fast corners, challenging ones. |

That first track would be very fast, while the second should provide passing...

The first one reminds me a bit of Castle Combe... Would get a bit boring to qualify on, but with powerful cars, there could be some good racing.
The second looks like a course from the 1930s... Those two straights and the hairpin look like they could be on a dual carriageway, while the rest could be parkland, with a municipal street at the bottom. Could be a fun track! Simple designs are sometimes the best. |

Ah, very cool! Too bad they're short, though...
I might as well throw in an idea of mine. Here's "Rocky Mountain International Raceway", to be set in a nice plot about 2 hours from Denver. Fast, lots of elevation changes, and trees. As the track leaves the first oval, is runs through a gap in the stands. It enter the second oval likewise, but leaves it by cutting down into the infield, and then passing thru a tunnel. It re-enters the larger oval by going through another tunnel, running onto the drag strip in the middle of the oval, and then onto a short road to the right leading back onto the oval at the start of the banking. |

Nono, I understood when you said they were real. I didn't know they were at first, though. Jordi didn't recognize them either, so...
