Who would you like to see in Winston Cup next year?

For me: Greg Biffle, Ted Musgrave, Scott Wimmer, Jack Sprague and Mike Bliss.

I would like to see Dennis Setzer get a shot at Winston Cup.
He has done rather well in the Truck Series.
He is a nice guy and a good driver I think.
He isn't a young man, so I doubt that he will get a shot.

Greg Biffle. Would love to see him and Kevin Harvick battling for the win at Bristol.

Actually Biff & Sprague are moving up next year...along with Jamie McMurray. Scott was going to, but I believe they decided to run another full Busch schedule next year & some cup races. My guess is he might be Ward's replacement in 2004 if things don't turn around next year for that team.

I would like to see Bobby Jr., but also one of Shortie's boys Casey Mears would also be a fresh face.

Jeff Burton. Oh, wait. He's already a Winston Cup guy.

Next year you'll have Christian Fittipaldi in some Cup races, and hopefully, full time in 2004. Also read where Fukuyama may try to run the full series next year, but without provisionals to get him in the race, I doubt that will last very long.

I would like to see the drivers that come into Winston Cup follow the ABC format (ARCA, Busch, Cup) or the TBC format (Trucks, Busch, Cup), they would earn their right to be in Winston Cup by finishing well in the first 2 racing series, good idea but there will be exceptions and those drivers will guarantee caution flags. I think Biffle, Sprague, Musgrave, and Bliss are definately ready. Wimmer is probably ready too but I believe I read that he is staying in the Busch Series one more year. All the drivers that I just named are proven winners and deserve to move up.

Ted Musgrave is very underrated and the one I would most like to see back in Cup. I remember back sometime in the late 90's when he finished a very close second in the Family Channel car to Dale Jarrett at the Darlington spring race. If Ted had the mindset of Dale Earnhardt, he could have bumped him coming out of the last turn to get DJ loose and he would have assuredly won the race--at the track too tough to tame.

But since Jarrett doesn't race like that, Musgrave raced him clean and finished second. I always had a very high respect for Musgrave ever since because he had integrity like that going for his first Winston Cup win. He also raced for Roush when they only had a couple of good cars which Martin and Burton got because Martin had been Roush's #1 for years and Burton was the up-and-coming driver to build a future around.

Besides the above, Ted is a very good guy, the unassuming type. Perhaps his clean driving style is something he took with him from ASA because ASA has always prided itself on clean short track racing.

Ted's last year in the Family Channel car was '97...the last year of the Thunderbird. The next year he was still with Roush in the #16, but had a different sponsor with the Taurus...I believe it was Primestar?

Also, '98 was Ted's last year with Roush. Kevin Lepage took over the ride in '99 but I can't remember if Ted was fired during the '98 season, or if Roush waited till after? Ted was in the #75 in 1999 & did a few spot starts in Cup after that. He took a year off when his wife was sick & has been racing in the Craftsman Truck series full time since the beginning of last year.

You're right. Its just that the paint scheme was the same as I think Primstar owned the Family Channel.

how about... Michael schumacher? anything to get the little bugger out of F1 to give everyone else a chance!

plus the likelihood of him managing to drive a stock car out of the box is low - the faliure to win the championship may wipe some of the arrogance away!

Just a thought!

Yeah but who would of thought that Jimmy Johnson would of done soo good this year. Most of us were wondering why in the heck Gordon picked him at the beginning of the year. Also a couple of weeks ago when Ganassi announced McMurray the same thoughts were going around. He was okay in BGN, and a cutie, but not as good as Keller or Wimmer. Wow he really suprised us right? Seems Chip knew what he was doing.

I was real impressed with Jimmy Johnson in Busch but I never thought he would be sitting where he is in the points right now nor did I think he would win more than one race.

McMurray may not have been as impressive as Wimmer but Jamie has never really had great equipment to work with in the Truck Series or Busch. I believe Wimmer was already signed up by Bill Davis so Jamie was probably the best young driver that was left unsigned when Chip went looking.

Overall, I think the change in engine regs in Busch last year (which made them the same as Cup), along with the Craftsman Truck Series (which had been the closer of the two series to Cup cars horsepower prior to the change in Busch), has made the transition to Winston Cup easier for young drivers. This is why we are now seeing so many rookies doing well in Winston Cup their first season. It use to take drivers a couple of years before they would win races in the series. Now, any driver has a shot so long as they have decent equipment.

Although the engine specs for BGN are much closer to WC now, I was under the impression that BGN still had to run the 390 CFM carbs.

I think you are right Lee Roy.
The Busch cars put out 50 - 100 horsepower less than Winston Cup,much closer than it used to be, chassis are similar, Busch used to have a shorter wheelbase, I'm not sure if they changed the wheelbase or not.
