Route to the top??
Hi all.I was wondering, how would a driver be able to reach the peak of motorsports if he/she does not live in Europe or in any countries with lots of racing events?I live in Singapore and I can tell you, this place is starved for the thrill of racing. And also, what if the driver does not have any money to bring him overseas? What can he/she do?Any comments/advice is greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Uhm... Do what you can, I guess... Karting, hillclimbs, rallies... And hopefully then move someplace where you've got a better chance of making it? If you're young enough, there's a chance.

Money, and try not to get tied down for too long in one of the junior formula's. But unfortunatly money is the major factor.

Thanks for your advice.I'm 14 this year. Here in Singapore where I live, there's nothing except karting and car-park rallies. No junior formulae of any sort. How can I find enough money? Can I hire a manager or something to help me?Thanks.

Get a shifter kart right away then, and start racing it. Build a resume for yourself, you could catch someone's eye if you show a lot of dedication and speed. Maybe a sponsor, maybe a manager. You're going to have to put in a lot of work and show lots of speed, but at your age anything's possible.

I don't have the money..... Besides, there's no track(there's only 1 and another one coming in a couple of months) here long enough for a shifter.I know that I'm capable of winning races and driving fast as I've been karting in other people's karts alot.Just don't have the money to get my own...sad.

Ah...
Jeez... I don't know what to suggest then... I don't know, maybe if there are some larger teams participating in either karting or car-park rallies, you could earn some experience and some money working for them part-time. Hmm... Pretty much out of ideas, I'm afraid. |

Its sad but i reckon everyone has to start by raising the cash. Who are the other peoples karts? How did they start, can they advise? Can you spend time running for them in exchange for a race or two?

The other people are the racers. Most of them start out by buying a kart and start racing it.I did do work for one guy and he let me have two drives in a kart.I'm also trying to raise money. But it is awfully hard to do a job while studying almost everyday(but i'm still going to try).I'm hoping that my dad would be able to help me.If he can, then I'll be able to get a kart sometime in June. Thanks for all the advice so far. They really did help!!
