DC should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Whats the worst crashes in the last 5 years? I would Say No 1 would have to be the one in 1998 in Spa! I think that crash looks funny now knowing that nobody gets hurt! A Zonta Crash has to be in the top ten, he's always having spectacular incidents. Give me your veiws and ill make up a top ten! DC

Villeneuve and mika salo's 1998 practice crashes at spa were pretty big. Maybe the fisichella and trulli crash at valencia should be in the top 10, shame it wasnt captured on camera.

That's a pretty sick topic. Just as well 1994 is six years ago.

I'll nominate only one and that's where the driver got out and was rather pleased with himself for his efforts: JV at Belgium last year in the woefully handling BAR...

It was his 'best crash.'

I'd go for the JV crash at Spa last year.

It was the most heart stopping thing you could ever imagine seeing.

Why is it a sick topic??, people crash in racing all the time. It dosent mean we cant talk about because people have died in the past.

Well done, I was trying to go back through driver line-ups but got lost! The memory if it seems more recent though.

Surely the worst 3 have been in no particular order, Panis, Montreal '97, Zonta, Brazil '99 and Micheal, Silverstone '99. I seem to recall that these involved significant injury to the participants. What in a crash could be worse than that?

There's a few!
Spa 98 - the pile up, Villeneuve's crash, and Salo's crash.
Spa 99 - Villeneuve and Zonta's crashes.
Melbourne 96 - Brundle's crash
Montreal 98 - Wurz's spectacular first corner roll (which the idiot on the FIA review blamed on Ralf's stalled Jordan!)
Montreal 97 & Silverstone 99 are in there somewhere too.
And of course, some Zonta crashes!

Spa '98, JV and Zonta Spa '99, Diniz at the Nurburgring '99, TGF Silverstone 1999, Panis Montreal 1997 (a race where Katayama had virtually the same accident before Panis but luckily recieved less damage to car etc...)

This is a bit of a sick topic, but it's a part of racing.

Biggest Crash:
Spa 98 crash at the start. A 13 car pile up!

That was one of the biggest crashes in F1 history.

As for a single car crash I would have to say Ricardo Zonta's crash at Silverstone. He flew over a ****ing fence!

Not having specified F1...

...my vote (not that I'm into this kind of entertainment, but as it turned out o.k....) goes to Peter Dumbrecks "little" excursion at LeMans, 1999. Boy those Mercs could really "fly", ehhh?

You must be thinking of Imola 94. He had a big crash in Friday practice.

If we're not restricted to F1, then a race I saw a while back has gotta qualify. Not sure what the formula is called but its the one that has the Gulf Mclaren team in it, using the McLaren F1 road car. Anyway, they started the race, got down to the first corner and the Gulf Mclaren in the lead spun, hit the barrier and came shooting back right through the middle of the pack. When the dust settled there was all three Gulfs in various states of distruction sitting on the roadside. No-one else was so much as touched.

Can't remember exactly - early 80s, Monza?? John Watson, McLaren. Car literally broke in half, JW's half of the car trundled back across the track and promptly caught fire. Good one because he walked away from it.

I don't know why I'm going here,...

...but I do remember the emotional pain resulting from some of the nastier Indy wrecks, like: Swede Savage, 1973; Danny Ongais, '81 or '82; Gordon Smiley, '82 or '83; and more recently, Stan Fox, 1995... I digress. here's a site 'fer ya's... http://home.wish.net/~f1crashes/ Viva la F1 !!!

Wasn't Andretti in F1 just one looong, drawn out crash? I mean, how many times did he finish a race before being replaced by someone who could drive - Mika Hakkinen? I think he won the title for Ayrton that year; took out all his main rivals!!

I'd agree with the Belgain motorway pile up. And yes, Jim, the Merc CLRs really did fly at Le Mans last year.
