Clipsal 500 not on TV
Just heard on Melbourne radio that the Clipsal 500 will more than likely not be shown on channel 10 cause of the war in Iraq. I will be amazed if this happens but they seem to think that this is the case. I will be very disappointed and angry if it is not shown.
I know the war is bad and is a very important issue, but not showing any sport on TV is ridiculous, it won't make any difference not showing it. Why don't they give updates during the race, ie during the ads. What's everyone thoughts on this? |

What updates would they have on the war???
Imagine the update from some newslamer: "Ten thousand three hundres and thirty four people have been butchered today, according to the George Bush memorial scoreboard, a record in the time available?? (sic)" |

Bloody disgrace if that happens. Surely a few hours of racing will not matter. I bet they show a lot of the other **** they have on there.

The stupid thing is that all 4 free to air stations will show exactly the same CNN coverage - you'll be able to flick through each channel and not miss a breath.
If only they'd done it properly 10 years ago this wouldn't even be an issue now... |

After Bathurst 01, I don't think this will happen.
Remember then they were talking about it and then on the news Monday morning it was all supposed war, war war. |

I'll be dirty if we miss out on the first round of the championship. But I wonder of Tony Cochrane is right at this moment threatening channel 10 with his own weapons of mass distruction if the decide not to air his show! |

They will hopefully just show us the usual greatest hits package on the 5pm news.
I'll be supermiffed if they can the Clipsal telecast - I'm still having withdrawal symptoms waiting for the season to start up again...Melbourne was a little tease but I need it bad baby. |

People need to see uplifting things, not a depressing war going on, I know what I would rather watch and I know all of you will be thinking the same thing. I nearly fell off my chair when I heard them say about the telecast.

Well in timing terms, Soddom Whosux has 48 hrs from AEST Noon to get out of Iraq, or the Aussies are coming... that puts it at Thursday lunchtime, by the time they fiddle round, likely Friday...
Ciao Clipsal 500 Wonder if AVESCO has a force majeure clause in its contracts with sponsors? |

who want's to see Iraq getting bombed? woooppee channel 10 had bloody better put the clipsal 500 on the TV this weekend! there's only so much news that can be shown on TV and they do a great job in the NEWS. getting updates on how many buildings have been bombed every few minutes is just wrong! I think the NEWS is where they should keep this event.

Put it this way, if 7 & 9 go for the CNNNN feed, 10 would get 100% of the non-war viewers.

I think CH10 should be bombarded with complaints if they don't show it and Cocharane should show a bit of guts too.

But seriously, if our boys to have to go in to fight, I hope everyone out there will have a moment to spare for thought and prayer on the 25th of April. |

Rust, I think you could be right regarding the blue oval, they've got a big chance this weekend. There's no doubting that people will be saying a prayer or 2 for our soldiers. But we need to see happy and entertaining things. They can still cover the war during the alotted news breaks.

They have been doing military training with live munitions, with US & British troops in Kuwait & Afghanistan... I would say the risk began long ago

I'd be suprised if it happened, surely no channel will be having that stuff 24 hours a day. The war will be 2 days old by then anyway.
The thing that gets me is that all the channels cancel everything and show exactly the same thing when something big happens, whether it be September 11, Bali etc... Wouldn't it be better for each channel to have a couple of hours each at different times. That way people who don't wanna watch anything about the war don't have to, and the people that do still can. That seems too bloody logical though. |

Yeah, have seen an ad here in Sydney in the last hour also.
Actually I have just had a response on the RPM Forums where I posed the question as soon as I saw this thread. Their official response: Posted at 6:20:55 PM (RPM Producer): It is hard to say at this point. Obviously there would be coverage from TEN News of events in Iraq. To what extent will be determined on the weekend. Not good enough. Last edited by Buckshot; 18 Mar 2003 at 07:25. |

AVESCO is putting forward a resolution for an extension to the UN security council overnight that would give Saddam until 5.00pm Sunday or the 10 minutes after the Chequered Flag, Australian time to leave the country.
George W is quoted as saying "what the &%$$ is a V8 Supercar they better go fast if i'm waiting for it" and Saddam stated "lets hope for lots of safety cars, and a thexton victory" Last edited by 05forever; 18 Mar 2003 at 10:59. |
