Slip of the tongue
I think James Allen has been having lessons of Murray Walker:
when ITV were showing highlights of the last race before showing the second qualifying session, as DC came round the last corner of the last lap, I'm pretty sure James said "Are those eyes [of DC] smiling? I bet they are..." Surely its a miracle of human-biology if someone can make their eyes-as opposed to their mouth smile! |

James Allen tries a bit too hard. I wish he wouldn't shout when the racing starts - I have to turn the sound down!
As for your query, maybe DC is a miracle? It is a miracle how anyone can be the fittest they have ever been, and come back one year later and be even better! 2003 could be his final McLaren year tho' unless he lifts the title. |

Now you see, this is why the Canadians made such a big stink to get the ITV coverage instead of Speed. Given the choice between bumbling Brits and bumbling Americans, we'll always want the Brits, thank you.

"When Irish eyes are smiling" is an old folk anthem, so I guess James was making a reference to that. Being part-Irish I know it well. It's not as bad as "do my eyes decieve me, or is Senna's Lotus sounding rough?", which is one of Murray's most famous gaffes.

Yeah, but last time I checked DC was Scottish, not Irish

It was his Look Ma no HANS unfunny joke with regards to Rubens not wearing the HANS device that had me looking to the heavens!

Barrichello won special dispensation from the FIA to not have to wear it.
