HHF defends Jacques

I would have added it to the "BAR pitstop fiasco" thread if it was still open
Quote:
From The Sun:
It's Button-up time
By STAN PIECHA

HEINZ-HARALD FRENTZEN has stepped into Formula One's BAR brawl by telling Jenson Button: Jacques Villeneuve would never do the dirty on you.

Button helped reignite his feud with BAR team-mate Villeneuve after the opening race in Australia, accusing the Canadian of deliberately ruining his points-scoring chance by coming into the pits out of turn.

That accusation led to Villeneuve having a blast at the Brit before last week's Malaysian Grand Prix and Button launching a counter-attack to keep the row blazing. It was widely reported Villeneuve had carried out similar antics when Frentzen was his partner at Williams in 1997 and 98. But the German dismisses the claims.

Sauber ace Frentzen, 35, who lost £1million in wages last year when Arrows went into liquidation, revealed: "Jacques was perfectly fair when we drove together.

"I didn't have any trouble with him and if there were any mind games going on they went completely over my head.

"To try and spoil another driver's pit-stop would be very difficult, as you do not know exactly when the other guy is supposed to come in.

"Jacques never tried anything like that with me and I wouldn't expect him to do it now. It had to be a mistake. If it was on purpose Jacques must have changed completely - and I cannot see that.

"Jenson should just get on with the job."

Sir Frank Williams recently described Frentzen as 'a lovely man, a brilliant driver, but not tough enough for Formula One'.

Frentzen added: "I can be ruthless on the track. But away from it, I'm not into trying to double-cross people or be nasty so it can further my career."
I knew I couldn't remember any time when JV had screwed Heinz Harald's race Although oddly wasn't it the Sun that came up with the "Williams insider"'s allegation in the first place? Wonder if someone at Stellar Management took objection to that...

What does this prove? JV destroyed HH-F on the mind front and he doesn't realise it or remember it! HH-F is a good driver, but i think he's wrong on this one!!

p.s...how many threads do we need about JV and JB??

It proves everything. HHF is saying the mind game stuff didn't occur with him. I still believe it was the atmosphere @ Williams that caused HHF to underperform.

Did JV play mind games at BAR? I don't know. Is he playing mind games with JB? Perhaps a bit, but I think it's more ego and bravado than trying to mess with JB.

Doesn't seem to be working...maybe JV should just get on with the job of driving.

Well Jellybabe, seeing as nobody could name a race where this occured to Frentzen, and given the original source, I think you have confirmed what was already obvious.

'Unknown Insider' usually means BS.

I think a lot of people just enjoy driver bashing, and after Oz it was easy to do that to Jacques. Some made a much bigger deal of what was obviously just a small mistake by the BAR team and tried to make it into something to do with JV's character.

Notice how few responses the topic that vindicates the driver gets compared to the one that was filled with rubbish accusations.

I certainly think Jacques has said some rather stupid things recently, but I don't believ that he deliberately messed up JB's race as 1)He's not like that; 2)He's got enough things to worry about!

I reckon their rivalry could be one of the interseting battles of the year though.

My thoughts exactly. Those fools who spouted such dribble before probably won't even look at this topic and certainly won't fess up to admit they acted like morons! You know who you are people!

I've always been a huge fan of HHF, but I think this comment says it all. Either he is a naif or as completely out to lunch as is said of him.

I taped as well as watched every race the year HHF was Jacques's team mate, and I don't recall any such incident. "Williams insider" could mean someone having sex with a person called William. Knowing the rubbish printed by the Sun, that wouldn't be far off the mark.

HHF just proves that JV isn't as bad as everyone says...

JV can ruffle feathers..but so does JMP or TGF or anyone else on the grid. But tyring to block Button on the pits.... come on

And all the talk afterwards....

Button did Start this whole thing with allegations that JV did it on purpose and he said that behing JV's back...

Now they both just need to let the talking be told on the track and just drive... may the better driver win....go JV

Not too surprising to see that the majority of the Brit print and web media, who were all over the pit incident like a bad rash for 2 weeks, have conveniently decided to overlook Jacques defenders, notably Olivier and Heinz Harald. Good on them.
