Promec (new car)
You may know that there's a new car in FIA SCC aPromec with the same engine as Pescarolo One of the drivers is Caffi:http://www.fastdetails.com/events/pi...toril_03_3.jpg http://www.fastdetails.com/events/pi...toril_03_5.jpg
It's not a wonderfull car!!!!! You may know them I think that last year they tested with a BMW engine but didn't race... |

The car looks to be as safe as an early 1970's F1 car...
I thought that the high edge cockpits (that are supposed to minimize head and neck injuries) were mandatory for opentop cars? Last edited by ASCII Man; 12 Apr 2003 at 13:05. |

5th in the Grid, not bad for the racing debut.

The rest of the car would look quite stylish if it wasn't painted that awful shade of yellow Last edited by KA; 12 Apr 2003 at 15:00. |

Body design mimics that of a cross between the front of a Lola, and aft of the driver's seat of a Courage C52 with a smaller engine cover.
It looks to me that a good number of new teams are looking to the aspects of the 3.5L forced-induction engine rather than a large displacment V8, 10, or 12. Even if there is the problem of higher rebuild costs, it balances out in the horsepower returns from the ease of adjustability. |

The design of this car is conservative but not ugly. Only that "open cockpit" looks odd these days.
Who's behind this Italian (?) Promec team/company? Is this maybe Lavaggi's new prototype car? |

Looks like a mid 80s low level F1 car with bodywork and a nose from the B2k/10.

Sorry...it's Monday....
I just clicked the links at the top... Overall, it is not that bad...not high-tech looking, but it sure is low and fairly sleek... Anytime there is a new chassis in the mix I am pleased...the more the merrier.... That is how this sport will grow... |

Can't agree more, Tim.
BTW, the car is not that bad, IMHO, except maybe the colour ... |

Maybe they can mix that "Glow-in-the-dark" yellow with the new "Pescarolo Green for the fenders and the wing...
You would sure be able to see it on the track at night... But I don't know if you could take 24-hours of those two colors together...especially on a full stomach |

It looks very low to me, too....either that , or the driver should be playing basketball...
I don't think that the Promec is stunning, but it isn't ugly, either... It will be interesting to see how it ultimately runs.... |

From the looks of that car, they don't have a lot of room under the rear bodywork for a bigger Judd engine....
A top-grade chassis will still be a dog if you don't have an engine that can push it with power... Wasn't that car initally tested in early 2002 with a BMW engine in it??? Help me out here...I remember that correctly, don't I??? |

The only picture I could find of the chassis prior to this weekend was on the outdated FIA site...the car was still in it's unpainted carbon-fiber form....unfortunately, that photo has vanished in their "site reconstruction" that began two days before their first race...
I do remember the bodywork sitting higher behind the driver, but don't remember how much higher... |

That sits noticeably higher than the current model with the Peugeot engine....
That bodywork could probably hold a Judd engine.... |

Personally, I think the Peugeot power is a mistake, but they must know what they think is best-suited to the chassis...
I hope they do have some success...they sure tired to get up front quickly yesterday, didn't they...but jumping the start only puth them in a hole to dig out of from behind.... |
